Receiving the "stigmata" means one's body is imprinted with the same wounds that Christ received on the cross (i.e. nail wounds on hands, feet, etc).

It is a VERY rare but amazing (and documented) gift from God given to very holy saints who had a great devotion to Our Savior's passion and death.

The most famous stigmatist was St. Francis of Assisi who bore the wounds for many years.

In our modern times, the stigmata of Blessed Padre Pio were examined and documented by scientists. You can read about it here

The Stigmata is receiving the marks of the wounds or pains of Christ from the persecution.

What most people do not know is that just because one claims the Stigmata does not mean it happens. All stigmata cases are throughly investagated by medical professional and others. One such example is Padre Pio he was ordered by the Vatican to cover his hands his entire life because his Stigmata was never declared a super natural event . In the 1920's when he claimed it he was pulled from duties and was sequestered while medical and psychological tests were done. His stigmata was declared not authentic (probably done with acid)and he was order to cover his hands, and into a retreat.

There have been stigmatas throughout the years that have had no medical or phsychological explaination such as St. Francis of Assisi. Interestingly enough some hindu monks have exprienced the same type of spontaneous bleeding, but not in the wounds of Christ.

The cases are very rare, few and far between. If someone was experiencing the stigmata they would not be on here.

In the early days of the fledgling christian church it used to be deemed and nonetheless is, that something which doesn't replicate their ideals must be referred to as heretical. Hence the entire hate, bigotry, and discrimination geared toward just about every person and the whole lot ever considering the fact that. They stole our holy days and twisted them to suit their schedules as a result developing easter, christmas or even halloween. All to quell the paganistic methods. Wicca continues to be really new and isn't good recognized both. There is not anything unsuitable with any style of paganism. Being Wiccan is nevertheless, a legally authorised style of faith and one can't legally discriminate in opposition to you on your religion while different types of paganism don't seem to be blanketed as of but. Let me depart you with this quote from a Catholic pope; Pope Leo X. "It has served us good this fable of Christ!" Sharon

Stigmata made a good movie, but that's about it. I personally don't think it's real either. It seems it would be a curse if it was. I know I believe in God and Jesus and all the things done for me, but I would not want to feel nails in my feet and hands, thorn crown, whips hitting me, etc...no thank you!

In your answers you have one from Keltasia which gives you an e mail link to Wikipedia for the correct answer. It's kind of long and takes a lot of patience and thought to really understand what it is. I warn you however, that for those who "believe" no explanation is necessary; and for those who do not "believe", no answer will ever suffice.
