Fentanyl is a maximum strength opioid pain reliever, mostly given to terminal cancer patients in the form of patches (also in other forms). It is said to be Morphine's BIG BOSS. No, it does not have to be directly on the source of pain, as when it is placed on the skin, it will absord into the blood stream and then do it's job. Opioids work on the receptors in the brain that tell us "hey, I'm hurting here!" Hope this helps.

What you are asking about is a narcotic and very addictive!
I am a chronic pain patient.
My doctor prescribed the drug in question.
Within three months I was hooked
I had to be hospitalized for detoxing
I have a friend who was on it took a fifteen nap
She was found 5 days later in a coma.
She survived but is disabled from nerve damage as a direct of taking the drug.
Please seek pain relief that is not life threatening!

Fentanyl is a narcotic (opioid) pain medicine that is usually given through an IV into your blood stream before surgery or for acute pain. It is also used to sedate.

Fentanyl generic for duragesic patches. It's strong narcotic compared to morphine. It's not applied directly to where pain is coming from it can be put on your arms(biceps),flanks(sides of your waist),chest.I wear them,i had 2 back surgeries and personally for me it stays best on my arms.I tried chest and waist and it doesnt stay there. You have to find area where it doesn't move much and has least of hair.If you have lots of hair you can trim it but do not shave it,it can cause irritation.

It is usually given when you are in the hospital vi IV. The drug is given in the IV and it goes to the source of the pain. Not directly at the pain site.
