is it worth it to donate to the united way?

Question

are company is having a united way fundraiser, and im all for helping out the needy, but after checking out some things on the united way, im not sure its a good idea to donate to them. from what i read the executives get paid big bucks to run a charity? only a very small percentage of my donation would even reach the person. is it worth my time and money to donate say 4 bucks every two weeks to the united way? i guess it would be a tax right off...?

Donate to a charity directly. You dont need to give to United Way so they can keep part of your donation for expenses. I personally never donate to them. My mother needed help getting to and from physical therapy after a stroke. As I worked and my father was an over the road driver we could not take her. I called the local United Way to get help. Their answer was you make too much money and to hire a cab. I told them I would be making $50 more a month. That was how much I was donating at the time. I went to work the next day and stopped all donations to them. I have not given them a penny since. Just my personal opinion of United Way.

yes it really helps...donating is a good cause I do and I reap the wealth.
I have the dollar amount deducted from my paycheck makes it easy and I can claim on taxes at the end of the year
