What does this tell you about the advantages of being straight?

Is the talked about "perceived" gay bashing dying out lately, or did it get over-reported?

Is it their own oddness, or perceived prejudice that kills UNgay young people???

God loves ALL His children. Does he HATE this behaviour?

These figures were cuted on a PBS show that I just saw.

The figures were given by a young white non-straight "gay expert" and the host (a black woman that I don't know...presumably the "straight" host of the show) agreed with him.

She had a number of white non-straight teenagers telling how they have it tough, and one black "gay" teen with long hair.

Perhaps you saw this show too!

This source does not guarantee the accuracy of the figures, but it sounded true (and known) when they said it.

If this is not correct, give us a better source. If this sounds true to you too, what comment would you make?

Those are high figures! I absolutely agree with you on that point. There are no levels of sin with God. The bible says," there is none righteous, no not one." So that little white lie you told yesterday is on the same level as murder! Hate is of the devil. Hate in itself kills the person hating, if you get what I mean. Haven;t people heard the saying, "hate the sin, love the sinner," ? God loves ALL his children, like you said. The only difference between me and the next door gay guy is that I have accepted the gift of eternal life which only the LORD Jesus Christ can bring. I am no better that him! Did you know that suicide and abortion are the leading causes of death in Canada? I don't have the figures, but I was shocked to see how many unborn babies were killed every day. The suicide rate is going up due to depression, which is due to not having God in your life! Like me and my family spent Canada Day at the forks, in Winnipeg to watch the fireworks. Apparently, though, that is not where families go in Winnipeg to watch the fireworks! A LOT of teens were there, and pretty scary specimens, too. With their bright orange hair, black makeup, and numberless tattoos, they seen like something to avoid. But then you look into their eyes. There is no joy there, only a deep despondency. If that doesn't make you cry, nothing will! To see how far they have gone down. No wonder why the suicide rate in teens is so high! The MOST we can ever do about it is pray about it.

I do not believe the lie about suicide being about acceptance and people getting bashed and all that- how many popular, jocks or prima donnas commit suicide- they hare accepted and not looked down on by society. Yes, there is a pressure there for them but everyone, gay, straigh, black, white, whatever has their own pressures and own trials to contend with. Some people are just so self absorbed and believe so strongly that they are the only ones dealing with something or their trials are so much harder than anyone else's, that no one would understand- they cannot see the world around them and people who are struggling just as much or worse.
As for the gay statistic, I don't know if it is accurate or not, but I would not be surprised - I don't, however believe it has anything to do with how they are treated by society- especially when you consider the incredibly low suicide rate among the American black slaves- and comparatively the homosexuals in America are suffering nothing compared to what these slaves went through and what some black Americans still deal with to this day (and I am talking about real bigotry - which today is rare compard to the imagined and pumped up stuff our press is feeding us)
Homosexual suicide is due to the fact that, whether being preached against or not, homosexuality is not natural, I have met many homosexuals and though they defend their lifestyle to the death, I cannot say I have met one who is truly happy with who they are and how they choose to live and it does not come from the so called persecution. It is unnatural and not the way God created man to be and the more and more anyone, gay or straight, allows themselves to be sucked into a perversion and makes excuse for it, the more unhappy and unfulfilled they will be, the more they have to get sucked in further seeking desperately to fill that void and once sucked in so far and seeing no way out nd that gaping void is still just as big and empty as when they first started, sometimes suicide seems the only option.

Also, to Godshew, respectfully, if there is no longer law, then what is the purpose of or need for grace?? if there is no law, what is there to repent for?? Do we serve a lawless, disorderly Jesus?? No, God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, we have been freed from the curse of sin and death, meaning we are free from being bound to such sins as homosexuality and God's grace carries us to the freedom of not having to receive the penalty for such sin. Those that rebel and choose to stay in their sin and defend and justify their sin will be sucked in to the darkness that is their sin, therefore suicide, self mutilation, anger and bitterness, harming others through abuse, rape, molestation, etc.
This goes for gay and straight people, whatever the sin may be.

First of all, you could be pulling these stats out of you a**. They mean nothing. As for this being proof of the "advantages" of being straight, it doesn't prove anything. All it means is gay teens are subject to a much greater level of ridicule and prejudice by the advantaged Christian heterosexuals. No surprise there. If all the homophobic fundies would leave gay people well enough alone, I bet that statistic would change really fast.

As for gay bashing being "perceived", wtf are you talking about?? All the stuff in the media about gay marriage is proof enough. Gay marriage is a big topic for everyone, and people who are against it are technically homophobes. Enough with this "marriage is between a man and a woman only". Whatever, the institution of marriage was invented by humans and can be defined any way humans like.

If this is a realistic statistic, I'd say that it is the social pressure against gay teens that causes this. The only advantage that being straight has as a teen is that there is one less thing to worry about in the mixed up, highly conforming rebellion of teens.

I feel really bad for teens now days. With peer pressure and all. It's hard for them to not want to be liked and part of the crowd. Narrow is the gate. We really need to lift up these youths in prayer, these times are a real struggle for everyone especially them.
