Live and let live. Love people for who they truly are. Love without expecting love in return. Try to be happy as best you can. When life rains lemons learn to make lemonade. Anger is a feeling not worth feeling. Everything can be fixed. Smile when your heart is aching. Always treat others as you want them to treat you. You have no control over others. Fix yourself first before you look at others. Pray for understanding, an open-mind, confidence and courage.
Those are the basics i guess and from there lots more branch out that are more specific. I learn this through life experiences, Al-Anon, and the New Testament. But i would love to learn some Buddhism. I just want serenity.

At my age 62 years , I have attended many teachings given by many scholars in my walk of life. The most attractive lecture was done by Swami Sughaboghanandha from Bangalore. His teaching are based on very practical and human too and based on Psychology matters. One important word he mentioned was " BE HERE AND NOW " . If you go and lead your life by keeping this secret you will know the real meaning of this and enjoy your life like anything.By the by what is your age and what made you to ask a wonderful question at this hour, and I liked your thinking and I really appreciate your valuable thinking All the best, Yours,

The teachings found in God's word the Bible are what I try to live by daily and teach my children. Although it's an ancient book, it is very practical for our day, and by following it's advice, I have been spared a lot of grief. Proverbs 3:5 say's "Trust in Jehovah with all your heart and do not lean upon your own understanding. In all your way's take notice of Him, and He Himself will make your paths straight."

Buddhism taught me that desire is the root of suffering. I take this to mean that, by expecting things to be different from the way they are, instead of accepting and dealing with it, we set ourselves up for a fall.
Taoism taught me that allowing life to unfold for itself, living simply and learning to trust things to turn out for the best is as good a way to live a happy life as any.
And while I still have very far to go, I do try in small ways to incorporate these lessons in my life. I have found that by doing so I have become calmer and more contented.
It's nothing special really, but seems to work, for me at least.
Namaste.

Kindness is the one over-riding action of others that stands out as my guiding light.
I remember the kindness of others when I most needed it and didn't expect it and sometimes when I probably didn't deserve it. I hope who I am is reflected in turn by what I have received.
Gratitude is up there too.. being grateful brings me into the moment. I am thankful everyday.
