It seems to me that that is the whole reason Cain killed his brother (he got jealous) Did God "want" Cain to kill Able? If so he shouldn't have punished him if he knew he would do it...

Oh! I was also under the impression that Able gave his best lamb, but I didn't know Cain gave leftovers, I thought he just gave some... and I had absolutely no Idea about the whole Adam not being his real father thing... well in that case, I suppose that is enough reasons to punish him by not accepting it.

Oh, I'm not "accepting" anything, I have read some of the bible, but it is nice to hear what other's say and not down them for what they think happened... I really didn't know why He accepted one or the other thought, but I was going to look up whatever they say, in the bible and otherwise.

Some of the answer here, that you seem to be accepting, are really out there.
Genesis 4:1 informs us:
"Adam had intercourse with Eve his wife and she became pregnant. In time she gave birth to Cain ."
It would seem Adam was the father of Cain.
I'm sure Eve would rather have relations with Adam than a serpent.
Isn't that bestiality?
Cain's offering was refused because of attitude.
Abel offered willingly, with respect.
Cain offered something only to keep up appearances.
His heart wasn't in it.

I like what one answerer said,

"God told Cain about the good path and of the bad path, and advised him to take the good one. Cain was the one who choose the bad one. God did not want Cain to kill Abel."

the early Jewish culture is one that is not easily understood by us westerners.... (it was given to help them remember a promiced being who would pay for our sins... the best of gods children and the first...Jesus) The whole idea of burnt offerings is foreign. Attitude was a big thing for them... and when you see where Cains attitude took him you understand more why God had placed that idea of sacrifice in their religon. cains attitude was open rebellion at the rejection of his half hearted sacrifice....he joined the dark side and will forever be cursed for it.

we now have Christs atonement for us christians to replace the offerings. we must now make an offering of obedience and tithes...1/10 of our earnings(for certain sects) (the first and best of what we earn) this is not so God has money but to help us remember the gift of the atonement.

"Did God "want" Cain to kill Able? If so he shouldn't have punished him if he knew he would do it..."

well mabe you don't realy understand the idea of freedom of choice and the pourpose of life here on earth.... it was a test for Cain and if he failed than he failed to gain the reward of returning to be with his maker...he chose the dark side. Your also probibly having trouble with the idea of for ordination and pre-destination. look those two things up and it may help.

Read Genesis chapter 4, it is explained right there.

Abel's offering was the best he had, Cain's was not That is one point of why God refused Cain's offering.

Second, were these offerings for asking forgiveness of sin? God instructed Adam and Eve about what He expected as offerings to ask forgiveness from sin. After they sinned God himself killed animals and gave them animal skin for clothing, rejecting the "clothing" they made with leaves. I think God gave them clear instructions for the future offerings; Abel got it right why not Cain?
Even if Cain did not get the instructions right, God talk to him and warned him about his bad attitude. He could have repented from his attitude, trade vegetables for lamb with Abel, and made a good offering. God would be pleased with him. But Cain choosed to kill Abel instead to obey God.

God told Cain about the good path and of the bad path, and advised him to take the good one. Cain was the one who choosed the bad one. God did not wanted Cain to kill Abel.

What I have always understood is that Abel gave God the best lamb of his flock, while Cain just gave some of the leftovers of his harvest. Because Abel gave the best of what he had, it was acceptable, but because Cain gave the leftovers, and kept the best for himself, it wasn't acceptable.

It's kind of like if you were selling a car for $1000 and someone came by and said here, I want to pay $10, now give me your car. God did not ask for a vegan meal, he asked for a sacrifice. God asked for a blood sacrifice for their sins, Cain sinned in his sacrifice by giving what he wanted to give. First of all, vegetables have no soul so the sacrifice was wrong, and it was not what God asked for. Cain wanted to worship God his own way. He wanted to show off his hard work, not sacrifice anything. Then instead of repenting for the stupid mistake and making it right.... he goes an commits murder. They don't do what God asks then get mad at God when things don't go how they want.

Cain was not a son of Adam, but a son of the serpent, Able was the seed line of Adam while Cain was not. Jude verse 14 & Gen Chapter 5, you can run Adam's seedline, if you put Cain as a son of Adam then enoch would be # 8 instead of #7, Able knew that God would require a blood sacrifice, Since Life is in the blood, God was not interested in food as a sacrifice but Blood. Now you mention the word Jealous, Jealousgy comes from satan.

It's all about the heart.

Able joyfully gave a worship offering to the Lord whereas Cain basically just burned his trash.

God hates farming, the cutting of beautiful trees and the destruction of the land, because you don't trust God to create it well enough.
God loves pastoralists/hunters/gatherers, because they trust God (as Jesus said "like the wild birds") and leave their life in God's hands.

Nothing like forcing those you claim to 'love' to throw perfectly good food away.
