I'm not sure of what country you speak but I think we have a very liberal immigration policy when it comes to those seeking asylum from a government seeking their execution. We have many dissidents here. We can't possibly take all the refugees of war. Instead we work to make sure the neighboring countries allow people to settle there through diplomacy actions. That's also the job of the UN and as a member we work to provide help.
I don't know what you've heard but my church has many missions and orphanages throughout the world helping. I support these causes.
I would ask what you have done to help? Have you gone on a mission to Africa or India to help? Joined the peace corp? Given to support their efforts.
Or are you just here to trash Christians that you perceive as not doing enough?

I don't know any Christians who could be considered guilty of this form of hypocricy.
However, I think you are missing something. Another fundamental basic of Christianity is respect for the governing authorities. When the governing body of a country has set certain rules regulating how visitors and immigrants come through its borders, it is entirely Christian to obey those laws! To block the movement of someone trying to sneak across the border is not a lack of compassion, it is respect for the law.
People seeking asylum in the US have a particular course of redress: there are procedures for them to follow. No decent person would deny such a person shelter or food, when they have done all they can to flee a bad place to come here.

Britain is a small country and while we have always tried to help people fleeing for their lives, there are only so many that we can help! That is a fact, parts of our country are already full to overflowing and many of the people here now are illegal immigrants.
As has been pointed out by others in answer to your question, Christians support a lot of work in other countries to be able to help people where they are! Our country is always looked to first for aid (as is America), yet we are hated by most of the world it would seem! When our own people were in need in the summer due to dreadful flooding, no help was forthcoming from the rest of the world as far as I am aware! Not even from the EU!!!
One reason why the British people are beginning to say that 'enough is enough' is due in some measure to bewilderment! So many have been welcomed to our shores for a variety of reasons, yet so many obviously don't want to integrate into our culture, or way of life! In fact there are those who actively hate us and want our country run on their lines, not ours!
IF THEIR WAY OF LIFE IS SO GOOD, BE IT POLITICAL, OR RELIGIOUS, WHY DON'T THEY GO BACK THERE?
Instead they stay here and complain about everything about us and expect to be given a respect and prominance of position for everything that they are not willing to give to us!
I am a Christian and my views will not be popular with some, but they are relevant! For those who want to live in peace within our shores, welcome! For those who don't, go home! Immigrants here should have to swear allegience to our country, just as they have to in Americal!
God made it clear to Israel that provision must be made for any stranger living within their land - as long as that stranger was willing to live in peace with Israel! We should have the same provision here, if there is any doubt as to their allegiance to our country, they should have to leave!
I personally would not want to see anyone suffering in fear of their lives anywhere in the world, but neither should we be a 'soft option'! Jesus wasn't, nor should we be!

This country can't provide for the entire world. If we try to provide for everyone, then it would just drag us all down. And, out of love for our neighbors who already live in this country, we have an obligation to limit the number of others we try to help.
Edit:
I read an article this afternoon that stated this country's finances are in a whole lot of trouble (our currency is losing its value at a very quick pace with no signs of it correcting itself) and, according to that article, one of the largest reasons for it is America's tradition of providing foreign aid and foreign assistance.

I suppose if those refugees sought asylum in this country, they wouldn't be neighbours. So it doesn't apply. :)
Christians are big on the details. :) They have no problem giving aid to people in those countries so long as they stay in those countries ;)

The Christians I know are all for helping asylum seekers, so I'm not sure they would fit your convenient stereotype.
