I was unable to access the original post, but these prices for the procedure all sound very reasonable. In an emergency situation, it may not be possible to have this kind of freedom where time is of the essence, but as a client, you always should have the right to ask your vet for an estimate of all procedures and to go over reasoning behind everything offered. If your vet is unwilling to take the time to do the following (depending on how an office is run, it may not be the most convenient option for the vet staff, but it should still be possible) then maybe it is time to change vets. Communication is key and if you feel you are left in the dark even when you are reaching out to your vet for answers, perhaps it's time to express your concerns and find another vet. I've worked at an office in a major city where the prices were far above what you mentioned and I currently work in an office in a much smaller city where the prices just about the same as what you've listed. 5 yrs Kennel attendant/animal care assistant, 6 yrs CSR, 2 years courier btwn 17 vet offices

It doesn't sound reasonable to me, but you have to decide for yourself - I have private dental care, and spend less than this (almost £350 per year) and see my dentist as & when - we agree it between ourselves.
