hate
its a feeling and usually occurs if something is going drastically wrong and you end up hurting. normally you cant chose to feel that way.
it totally depends on each individual on how long it lasts.
abuse could be a reason for hate

another type of hate could be being very superficial,for example your partner was beating you up and now you say ALL men are like that. thats just making stereotypes,its wrong and yet again depends on the individual how long it will last. this kind of hate is a choice in my opinion because nobody knows everything/everybody so they cant judge like that

love
its again a feeling which you dont chose. you either love something/somebody or you just like/dislike it. it can last a lifetime or only for a certain time depending on interest or how you get treated. you love because its good for you (well thats the reason for all normal people)

friend
a true friend is a person you can trust,rely on. a person who is there for you no matter what. true friendship can last forever,it usually ends when one of them hurts the other. you chose your friends depending on their personalities (if you are a decent person)

lover
is a person you are interested in,that includes being interestedin a sexual way too. its your choice if you want a lover. the reasons for that vary from being alone, just wanting some attention, having feelings for that person etc. if you have a lover for selfish reasons then it will last till you find something better. it can happen that your lover turns out to be the love of your life though

agape? as in being surprised?
its a feeling so you cant chose to be surprised. the reason for it is something that happened which you didnt expect to happen. a surprise can be good or bad depending on what happened
