I have been part of this family for just over a year. I'm sure it is a question of respect, since he has none for me or anyone else. I.m at my wits end. Also my own to sons are very upset over this. Any suggestions?

Flat out tell him not to give your dog chocolate. If he won't stop then you should put the dog up when he comes to visit. I know it isn't the dogs fault but your son-in-law is just acting like a goober. Of course you could do what I do with my stepson, if I tell him not to do something I slap his hand. Of course he's 7.

Although I bet that would get your stepsons attention.

An almost 50yr old man doing something so cruel to a dog is way past disrespectful. Attempting to kill or poison a dog is a crime. Tell him you will be filing a criminal complain if it ever happens again. I would suggest you speak to your local humane society or animal control or simply the police department and have an officers card available. I would then hand it to this animal abuser. I would also speak to the police about elder abuse, because it sure sounds like he is psychologically abusing you and threatening to harm your dogs. Its not a question of respect, he is trying to kill your dogs.

Let your husband know that you do not appreciate what your SS IL is doing and how dangerous it is. Chocolate can be fatal to dogs it causes uncontrollable diarrhea and can kill them. Tell your husband that you have tried to solve the situation on your own and are getting nowhere and that you would appreciate him saying something to your SS IL. It doesn't matter how long you have been in the family the point is you are in the family and that you deserve the same respect no matter what. If he can not quit then let him know that he is no longer allowed to come over to visit until he can show you and your animals proper respect.

Remove your dogs whenever he is around and if you can, keep him out of your house altogether. Does he live with you? Of not, keep him out; if he does, lay down the law. Chocolate is, as you know, poison for dogs. He sounds like a sadistic creep. You can also muzzle your dogs when he is around...

Since chocolate is toxic to dogs. It means he will be held responsible for their deaths. And you'll call the police.
In the US, he will face the same situation as micheal vick.
