I hope that the Yahoo! Answers people will not delete this post because in the first place this is a valid question. I know that many JWs here will be furious with this question but please be considerate and let the public answer. The JW Governing Body predicted the following dates and failed a reason why thousands of JWs around the world left their movement in dismay.

1. 1874 - failed
2. 1878 - failed
3. 1881 - failed
4. 1910 - failed
5. 1914 - failed
6. 1918 - failed
7. 1920 - failed
8. 1925 - failed
9. 1975 - failed
10. 2000 - failed

The JWs will reason that even the disciples asked Jesus as to when the prophecy concerning the last days will take place. (See Luke 21:7) Excuse me. But the disciples asked the question and not prophecy by means of date setting just like what the JW Governing Body did for many years. Before the JW people here petition for the removal of this question, I hope that you will be considerate enough to understand the validity of my question. Think about it.

No.

Most of these dates have absolutely no connection with Jehovah's Witness theology. Perhaps the questioner intentionally "forgot" to include the supposed publication references of "predictions" which focussed on each of these years.

Incidentally, The Watchtower was first published in 1879 which would have made it quite impossible for Jehovah's Witnesses to have published any "prediction" for 1874 or 1878.

Jehovah's Witnesses would argue that their ideas about 1914 and 1975 were largely accurate. In 1914, the second presence of Jesus began, Satan and demons were hurled to earth, and earth began to experience terrible signs (such as World War 1) that will lead to Armageddon. The year 1975 merely concluded 6000 years of human existence; no other events were "predicted" for that year.

Note that Matthew 24:3 (and other Scriptures) connect Christ's second presence with "the conclusion of the system of things". Matthew chapter 24, Mark chapter 13, and Luke chapter 21 plainly enumerate a list of signs that would indicate that "the Lord's day", "Christ's presence", the beginning of "the conclusion of the system of things" had begun (see also 2 Tim 3:1-5 and Dan 2:28;10:14).

(Matthew 24:3-14,27) What will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?” And in answer Jesus said to them: “Look out that nobody misleads you... You are going to hear of wars and reports of wars; see that you are not terrified. For these things must take place, but the end is not yet.

Again, it would be reasonable for the questioner to include some support for his accusations. It would unreasonable for the questioner to insist that others accept his accusations without evidence. Frankly, anyone who does so would seem to be a prejudiced bigot.

Many even of the Jehovah's Witness faith do not understand this, however the Jehovah's Witness dogma is often geared around the leaders. The Jehovah's Witnesses used to declare that Jesus grew to become right into a mediator in basic terms for the one hundred forty four,000 (until 2012), yet now's in basic terms a mediator for the Governing physique of Elders. in addition they state that the Governing physique acts as a team acts as a PROPHET being divinely guided. better, the Bible is in basic terms for them to interpret - they state that the rank and record participants shouldn't habit their very own study in this area, the rank and record participants could in basic terms study the Watchtower and wide awake magazines. hence the Governing physique of Elders is the mediator between something of the Jehovah's Witnesses and Jehovah. They workout autocratic administration over all doctrine and act by using fact the best coaching authority. Jehovah's Witnesses in this board will probably refute this, yet i might wager that maximum of them are certainly unaware.

Half the dates have no relevance to Jehovah's Witnesses although the 2000 date is interesting.

Back in the run-up to Y2K, the shelves of the Evangelical book stores were crammed with books calling for the Y2K computer bug to mark the return of Jesus.

Wow, kinda funny, especially the last one about 2000. I don't know where you got this information about my beliefs, but it isn't true.

I do know many groups believe 2000 to be "the year", however we were not one of those groups.

Please do some research, then form your questions based on facts, not random incorrect data.

Hope this helps.

Anyone who petitions for the removal of such a question has other reasons than being offended because there is nothing offensive about this question.

I did know this, but not the exact dates. However it's no different to the other religious doctrine that does not stand up to any kind of examination.

I agree with you but we should base our arguments on what's the Truth. Jesus said that we shall know each other by our fruits. Anyone can see if they have their eyes open what's in the world. Let's speak the truth because God can fight His own battles and this one is His.

They have failed with the dates, Deuteronomy states in Deuteronomy 18; 22 That if it does not come about as that prophet has spoken it then that is a false prophet! the date setting is a way or scare tactic to keep them within the walls, They to cover for the failed prophesies have come up with a new light policy that they keep getting updated. I looked up new light in the bible and it doesn't refer to prophesy, it refers to the quality of a persons life. you also have to remember that they broke away from the 7th day Adventist who also had failed prophesies.

I know. They seem to have given up predicting dates now. I once asked two JWs what happened to 1975, and one of them, obviously a newby, didn't know what I was on about. The other one chipped in and tried to explain it away. I can't remember what she said now, but it didn't make sense. I got the impression that she was embarrassed that i knew something that her fellow JW didn't know - and mentioned it in front of the newby!.

It would be a really good question , IF you knew what you were talking about.

I personally have looked into all of these things and your statement is without basis , but don't let that bother you ,,keep up spreading your lies if you wish.

Please remember they are a cult. But you are right the Bible says no man knows when the second coming shall occur. Even Jesus told his Disciples that. Besides, prophecy is a gift given to Christians. They aren't Christians. As such, they can't prophecy when they second coming is coming, Even if God would reveal it to people. Which he clearly states no man knows when.
