Hello everyone. I am a religious man that is learning more and more about life. My mind is starting to open as I am having a "metal growth spurt" if you will. In my "openess" I am seeing things differently. Not that I am straying from my religion, but I am certianly seeing things in a different light. (I think) I can tell that a lot of my christian friends are seeing things more in the box, and I am not. Yes, I will never leave my faith, but I know I am seeing certian things that they are not seeing. At any rate, I wanted to know, to all my fellow christians out there, "can your mind be to open?" I am starting to think it can not.. If possible, I would love an answer, and not a typical "christianese" answer. Your best thoughts. Thanks

Blessed be the illumination that "lights" the way...It is an honor to meet one such as yourself. An "open mind" implies "openness" to all created beings. It is so refreshing to find a Christian who is willing to expand into greater possibilities. There is nothing to fear in opening one's self to all; your faith need not waver. In fact, as you encounter others' "hearts" yours will continue to expand. This expansion will illustrate that we are not "separated" beings; rather, we are all one in the One. You call that God; I call it Source; others approach from a different path...but all leads to Love. Thank you for "opening" the discussion and inviting all to step out of the box of exclusivity and separation. We all live in the ocean of "God's" consciousness. I am Sirius

Of course your mind can be open. But as a Christian I can't possibly accept another way. The Bible tells us to believe without wavering. Of course it is ok I think to listen to what others believe. I have had many JW friends and Hindu friends etc. But when it all comes down to it I just cannot believe any differently than what I do no matter how hard they convince. Also I have had so much happen in my personal walk with Jesus that I see him so much as a friend. He would be so wounded. Already has taken the wounds actually if I would leave Him as my first love. This really marks the difference of being religious and having a true friendship with God. I would suggest instead you dig deeper into that relationship. Don't just believe, experience the relationship.

I am a Christian as well. If you think of Christianity as a "box" to look at life through, you have a problem. I personally think that "religion" as we know it is bad. Christianity is not a "religion", Christianity is not a building you go to on Sunday, Christianity is not a book you read. Christianity is a personal relationship with Christ, made possible by a relationship with others, and knowledge of the Bible. Open mindedness is not a bad thing, but if open mindedness equals being devoid of any type of moral impetus, then I see that as a conflict with my faith.

Your mind should always be open. If it wasn't people would have never discovered new truths and inventions. Who would have ever thought that someone could actually walk on the moon or fly across the pacific or atlantic ocean? It took an open mind for all this to happened. Don't be afraid to explore new things, don't just believe anything anyone says.

Good luck!

The mind should be open, to the best spiritual ideas you can find, whether from groups or individuals. Religion should be more like science, in that it should be always searching for a better answer.

true to be open minded is to do research , pro and cons of matters. In the matter of things that are labeled as sins we shouldn't base them on opinions. God didn't label things as sins just because He felt like it. I do have a question for the one who said the bible says the world is flat. Where is this in the bible?trying to keep a open mind:) For I only seen a verse where it says its a circle

Years ago - when I read Jesus' teaching on divorce and re-marriage as adultery ("this is a hard saying and not everyone can accept it but only him to whom it is given"), I began to open my mind to the possibility that homosexuality was not really sin per se - that Jesus never addressed it as such - and that if it were, it was like divorce and re-marriage; maybe something not perfectly in line with God's plan for mankind, but not a deal-breaker to salvation either.

to me being open minded is being willing to see the [thing] for what it really is

and not what others have said it is for thousands of years

some people in the past believed the world was flat, because they read it in the bible and the bible is supposed to be infallible truth

then some one came a long and said the world was round, and all most lost there life because they went against hundreds of years of commonly accepted beliefs

to me this is open minded....not believing what you are told....untill you PROVE it to be true.

if you are at that "life altering stage" where you see "religion as a whole" to be flawed & your mind is "questioning your path" but not leave it completely, simply alter the way you believe within that religion.

my path of Christianity changed when I saw that as a Christian I was also a witch.

I was reading the Dictionary & the 3rd definition was "Divination" was "one who worships a "Divne being"

"God being the most diven" 1+1=2

an open mind is a good thing, but too open a mind, you loose sensability, (your brains fall out, and you start sending televangelists all your money), to closed a mind, and your brain atrophies and stagnates.
Keep your faith/religion, no one says you have to lose it to have an open mind.
Good luck!!
