Considering the American government put Shah Pahlavi on the throne in the first place, I would say that the Iranians have every right to fear US aggression.
Also Bush declared Iran part of his "axis of evil" years ago. He has shown the will to attack one other member of the axis so far.
Ask Ann Coulter- she will tell you that having your house blown up in the name of democracy is the right thing.
Of course any country has the right to try to defend itself. I personally am willing to give the Iranians the benefit of the doubt so far.
The Iranian government knows what would happen if they went nuclear against any other country, and they are also capable of realizing that if they gave nukes to terrorists they would most likely be the first target of their own weapons. The propaganda, disinformation and hatred in the American media could result in full blown war around the world.

All things are possible so the question is one strictly of opinion on why they are doing it; I do not think there is any doubt from a reasonable person that I ran does want to develop neuclear weapons. The why I do not think is tp "scare" te U.S.; I think it is to threaten Isreal and theie Arab neighbors. The main reasons for this is that they would not have the quantity of nuclear weapons to threaten the U.S. with massive damage as the Russians and Chinese do and the primary reason is that they have no means od delivery to attack the U.S. with it. They can threaten Iraq, Afganistan, Syria, Isreal and so on with it but to us it against the U.S. or U.S. personnel woul be suicide because of the likelyhood of retaliation by the U.S. and the rest of the world would quickly turn agaunst them if they did; this would include the Russins and Chinese becausse they ar not "friends" they have more of a financial and "enemy of my enemy" reationship. The why's can and will be debated because no one knows why except the Iranian leadership and they will publicially say it is to protect themselves from the U.S. because if they say it is to threaten or be used for anything else much of there backing and assistance would vanish. As for your #6-Let the Iranians chose what is best for them and not the White House; the problem is right now they have no choice in it because of the leadership and the military/paramilitary power of that group. If you really want to get technical then legally the Iranians have already invaded the United States and a legal state of war exists between the U.S. and Iran under international law. That is because they took over the U.S. Embassy and by international law that is considered a soveriegn part of the country the embassy represents so taking the embassy is legally the same as invading the nation itself. So the Iranian governemnt declared war on the U.S. almost 30 years ago and it just has not been finished.

I can assume that when you say "The US" you actually mean "Bush". Right?

Nice, except that Iran has been engaged in hostilities with the US since Jimmy Carter. It could have been taken as an act of war when they stormed our US Embassy in Tehran and took our personnel hostage for 444 days. But Carter's total ineptness in handling the situation gave the hostage takers and Iran a lot of gravitas. You did know that Iran's current President was one of the student leaders of the hostage takers? That would make him a criminal under international law concerning the protection and immunity of diplomats.

Iranians will not be able to bring democracy to their country without bloodshed. Not as long as the root of all the world's Islamic terrorism lies in Iran in the form of their Mullahs and Ayatollahs. Ayatollahs who preach the destruction of all infidels in the world and who's goal is to bring the world under the one true religion, Islam. A couple of nukes would be a powerful weapon to help achieve that goal.

What effect would a nuke in NYC, Washington, London, or Paris have on the global economy? Total collapse probably. Look at the economic chaos 9-11 caused. That could be a good step in starting the downfall of Western Civilization.

Yes that is possible and even likely.
The motivation for their nuclear program, assuming they have one, is not the issue. The issue is whether a nuclear armed Iran constitutes a acceptable risk to the United States or allies of the United States.
I dislike the idea that my country may be seen as a bully and Iran as a small child being victimized on the playground. But to use the playground as an example, is it OK for the small child to bring a hand grenade to the playground tomorrow?

The short answer is yes the are very afraid that Bush will come along and jam US democracy down their throats. They do not want or need US form of government; almost no one in the world does. Bush is delusional and just THINKS everyone will appreciate having US-style democracy shoved down their throats. He does not understand that not all countries have the same history as the US or the same cultural background. He thinks one size fits all and HE is the one to decide if it fits. He is, after all, The Decider.

If Bush is stupid enough to attack Iran (and this is the biggest threat facing the American people - Bush's stupidity) then any differences the Iranian people have with their government will vanish overnight and the entire country will rally around their leader and fight US creeping oppression.

The Iranians are developing atomic weapons to aid in the elimination of Israel, which is not necessarily a bad thing. It would certainly be a GOOD thing for American taxpayers, who would no longer be forced to shell out billions of tax dollars every year to support Israeli oppression, occupation, and genocide.

As far as I know no one is accusing them of making a bomb. Only that by trying to get the power to make more electricity they will then have the "capability" to make a bomb.

Iran needs power to run all thier homes and businesses and wants to use nuclear power. Thats the bottom line.

The US should stay out of it.
