If the IRL can do it, NASCAR probably can too. I read an article a couple months back that said GM was trying to get NASCAR to switch to ethanol, and that GM wants to build an ethanol racing engine. I'm guessing the only way NASCAR makes the switch is if Sunoco starts making ethanol or if the Ethanol Co-op offers NASCAR a lot of money.

I think it would take a lot to get NASCAR to switch over to alternative fuels.
They are in a contract agreement with Sunoco, for how many years I don't know.
They would have to prove that it would work in the high compression engines that they run, without loss of speed or power, and still be safe. My understanding is the fuel is not quite as stable as racing fuel.
Besides, who wants to see Nascar run cars that are "Politically Correct". That is not NASCAR's roots.

I think it's only a matter of time before Nascar switches to ethanol, but I'm not sure how much Sunoco will appreciate that.

approximately 3 hundred,000 gallons a year from the components i've got seen. that's approximately 2,580,000 gallons under what St. Louis missouri drivers use in one day. Of all of the gas burned in the U.S. consistent with annum, Nascar makes use of .00133%. So in theory, if Nascar replaced into banned, the typical client would save a million.33 cents for one and all thousand gallons of gas offered.

I would but getting those engines to run on the Ethanol would be a big engineering task. This year alone going to unleaded Fuels for the 1st time has created alot of headaches--A lot of blown engines-trouble in the cylinder heads and valves!!!!!

Well considering that the alternitive fuel of choice is ethenol this could lead NASCAR into a full circle.
Ethenol and Moonshine are first cousins.Moonshine uses sugar as its base where ethenol does not.
But the possability of NASCAR using lternitive is low now since they just moved to unleaded.

I don't know if they are willing/able to undertake all the modifications it would take to enable the cars to run as competitively as they do now. I doubt they would begin to seriously plan it anytime soon, especially since they are still probably going to be COT issues for them to deal with.

AFAIK, they are looking at it. And probably sometime
in the future it will be done. I read someplace that GM
is working on an engine that will burn alcohol.
