They're really at least dimly aware that there isn't any afterlife. They're not quite brave enough to stand up to society and admit it, but at the same time they're affected enough by that awareness that they cling to life.

To be honest I'm afraid of death only because I see life as so precious. The wonders found in this reality everyday just amazes me. Having the ability to see, hear, taste smell are so wonderful. To have a mind which can reason better then any computer how marvelous is that. I do however understand that once we leave this world these things we enjoy now will be nothing compared to the future with God.

personally I am not afraid of dying.I would of course not want to leave my family and friends but I know in my heart there is so much more to life awaiting me and I know I will be with my family in heaven. And most importantly I will be with my heavenly father when my work here on earth is complete he will call on me to return to him there is no fear in that I was sent here for a purpose and I will not leave until he is ready for my return and knowing this gives me great joy.

Who told you we were afraid? Most Christians long to see Jesus and want to go to heaven. We're not going to pray that death comes early so we can get there. Although some of your readers might. Christians have an assurance that they will be alive again when Christ comes. Not because we're better than anybody else (because we have ALL broken every one of God's commandments-to lust is to commit adultery and to hate is to murder per God's Word) but because we know that Jesus came into the courtroom where we were condemned to die by a just and terrible God and paid our fine.

I am not afraid of dying. I don't know what christian you are talking to. I am not afraid of death. I am sure no one looks forward to it. Especially, if you know you are. It is probably hard to leave your family. I don't think that your question applies to all Christians. I know where I am going. I try every day to keep my heart right. When your heart is full of hate, your drinking the poison and waiting for the other person to die.

I think everyone is afraid of the unknown. I am afraid to die for the sake of friends and most of all my family. I would accept it though, because if it's time for me to go there's nothing that can be done. That would mean my work here is done and I am being called to move on to a better existence and serve the Lord. What better way is there to spend eternity than to live amongst the Lord God himself? GOD BLESS!!

First, we do not "go" to heaven, we GROW to heaven. Is the idea of following one religion or another solely for the purpose of knowing where your immortal soul will go upon death of the body? I think it's meant more to be a guide for living. If people stopped comparing themselves to others for the sake of justifying their own immoral behavior and simply compared their present life to what they have done in the past with the intent and conscious effort to be more ethical now and in the future the whole world would be far better off. If someone is afraid to die I would have to question their reasons. To die to is return home.

No I'm not afraid of death anymore - one of the "perks" of being a believer. We get to live with hope and die in peace.

I have however asked - begged really - God to spare me from some long painful terminal illness.

When I go, I want to go quick!

I know I am not going to heaven. If Jehovah sees fit to grant me everlasting life, then I will live here on a paradise earth.

Ecclesiastes 1:4- A generation is going, and a generation is coming; but the earth is standing even to time indefinite.

Psalms 37: 9, 11- “For evildoers themselves will be cut off, But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth.....But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.”

Isaiah 35:1,2, 5-7 - The wilderness and the waterless region will exult, and the desert plain will be joyful and blossom as the saffron. Without fail it will blossom, and it will really be joyful with joyousness and with glad crying out. The glory of Leb′a·non itself must be given to it, the splendor of Car′mel and of Shar′on. There will be those who will see the glory of Jehovah, the splendor of our God. At that time the eyes of the blind ones will be opened, and the very ears of the deaf ones will be unstopped. At that time the lame one will climb up just as a stag does, and the tongue of the speechless one will cry out in gladness. For in the wilderness waters will have burst out, and torrents in the desert plain. And the heat-parched ground will have become as a reedy pool, and the thirsty ground as springs of water. In the abiding place of jackals, a resting-place for [them], there will be green grass with reeds and papyrus plants.

Isaiah 65:20-25- “No more will there come to be a suckling a few days old from that place, neither an old man that does not fulfill his days; for one will die as a mere boy, although a hundred years of age; and as for the sinner, although a hundred years of age he will have evil called down upon him. And they will certainly build houses and have occupancy; and they will certainly plant vineyards and eat [their] fruitage. They will not build and someone else have occupancy; they will not plant and someone else do the eating. For like the days of a tree will the days of my people be; and the work of their own hands my chosen ones will use to the full. They will not toil for nothing, nor will they bring to birth for disturbance; because they are the offspring made up of the blessed ones of Jehovah, and their descendants with them. And it will actually occur that before they call out I myself shall answer; while they are yet speaking, I myself shall hear. The wolf and the lamb themselves will feed as one, and the lion will eat straw just like the bull; and as for the serpent, his food will be dust. They will do no harm nor cause any ruin in all my holy mountain,” Jehovah has said.

Just because we know that we are going to heaven doesn't mean that we are ready to leave this earth yet. Some of us have families, little children that we would like to see grow up. So of us know people that are not saved. Like in my situation, my husband is not saved and I have two little children. I do not want to die right now. I want to see my husband come to Christ, I want to be a part of my childrens lives and see them grow up. I am young and I want to see what the rest of this life has in store for me. It does not mean that I am neccessarily AFRAID to die, I just don't want to, yet.

I'm not afraid of dying although I'm not too keen on the process! I hope it's quick.

It's difficult even for Christians as we all have loved ones here we hate the thought of leaving.

Apart from that we are here to fulfil God's purposes until He decides it's time to move on.
