Hi, thanks for reading. I am changing my company car soon, and would like a 4x4 that is classed as a commercial vehicle for tax purposes. For the life of me I am having trouble getting this info. Can anyone help out with some suggestions up to about £26,000 list price? Many thanks.

the rear side windows need to be solid panels to be classed as a commercial vehicle, for instance if you buy a land rover with windows its a car if the windows are missing then its a van and a commercial vehicle.

I am trying to do the same. It seems it has a lot to do with number of seats, rear windows, fuel type etc.

Your rule of thumb is that if it has 2/3 front seats and no back seats it is a commerical vehicle. Not always the case though. My insurance company were a great help

Generally only the commercial "van" variants (with no rear seats, and no rear side windows) of SUVs will be considered as vans by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HRMC) for tax purposes.

However double-cab pick-ups (Mitsubishi L200, Nissan Navara, Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger, Mazda BT-50, Isuzu Rodeo, etc.) are a grey area. HMRC has issued guidance that only those with a payload capability of 1-tonne or more will be considered as commercial vehicles. Note that a hard-top over the load area is considered to reduce the payload by 45kg, which may be enough to make the vehicle a car for tax purposes.

You will need to contact UK dealers of these vehicles to determine which exact versions meet the HMRC requirements.
