She ticked a box refusing a blood transfusion! Her JW husband is distraught and she has motherless twins - how can this be right? I could have cried when I read the papers this morning. How do they REALLY know they are going to a better place.

Sorry guys - I cannot respect her faith. I think they are deluded - they have to die before they know for real. Yes - they chose their faith. Tell that to the two little kiddies when they grow older. "Sorry babies - mummy had to leave you - she chose her religion over you" How will they feel? The children have no option.
I would not have given birth in the first place if I though I would not be around for them. My kids are the world to me
and if I had to choose religion or them - ABSOLUTELY NO CONTEST!!

LYNSCR - How I agree with you! We have our wonderful nursing staff that dedicate their lives to saving others - only to be told NO not to be saved. Then they have to look on helplessly.

ACHTUNG - This is a q/a site - so please if you are not interested in other peoples opinions why don't you get your black coat on and your magazine and do what you are used to doing, and that is PESTERING PEOPLE IN THEIR OWN HOMES TO GIVE UP OUR FAITH AND BELIEVE IN YOURS!! YOU ARE THE ONLY RELIGION THAT IMPOSES THEIR VIEWS!!

That is so sad. It reminds me of when people have so much faith, they handles snakes and die from snake bite.

I'm sure that when God said to pour out an animal's blood before you eat it, he was never intending that people should die, to keep such a simple command. In fact, it was for the benefit of humans that he even made the concession of eating of animal flesh in the first place.

From what I know of Jehovah's Witnesses, though, they simply do what they're told. Hopefully some day their Board of Governors will vote to let them make these kinds of decisions for themselves. As it is now, I don't think they really have any choice unless they want to be shunned, like the Amish do. Perhaps she preferred death to the shame of having to live with being shunned. It was her choice to make, but if being shunned is the result of one of your choices, you may feel like you really don't have a choice.

It's really heartbreaking.

I cannot believe that a loving God would want us to ignore the advances of medicine. After all, he did give humans BRAINS to THINK with.

The Bible is allegorical, meant to be a guide to living correctly. For example, in the Old Testament, people are stoned, women must be separate during their menses, men must wear beards. Unless one is an orthodox Jew, one no longer does these things.

I feel sorry for the wee ones, as they shall have no mother.

Edit: May I remind some of you literalists that blood transfusions did not exist at the time these words were written! And as I said, if you take everything literally, go back to stoning people etc. etc.!

what's thrilling approximately all of it extremely is, that the wellbeing center became given a blood salvage gadget by using the congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, and the mummy signed to assert that she became agreeable to this gadget getting used. regardless of if, the wellbeing center team did no longer be attentive to a thank you to apply it and as she lay bleeding, the staff have been attempting to artwork out how the gadget works. The wellbeing center is now being sued. This gadget became donated in July, so the wellbeing center had 3 months wherein to coach its team on its operation. What a pity it is that persons bounce on the bandwagon and denounce this undesirable guy and the kin, in the previous they discover out each and all the information.

If you had of read the whole BBC news article it said that a blood transfusion would NOT have saved her life anyway.

This means that the whole issue is mute.

Of course that wont stop the ones sensationalizing the whole thing and trying to hang the blame on the Jehovah Witnesses.

The fact is (and ALL people that have an operation must face) that sometimes things go wrong , and when they go wrong , there is often nothing that can be done.

Additionally it must also be recognized that Jehovah's Witnesses have fought hard for the medical rights and freedom that YOU yourself enjoy today.

No different to a suicide bomber. Religion is religion. If someone believes in it so fundamentally, there is nothing you can do to change it, regardless of the consequences. Unfortunately, the children are going to be indoctinated to believe she did a good thing. Where is the part of the bible that prohibits blood transfusions. My medical history is a bit rusty, but I'm sure the Bible was written about 1500 years before anyone ever considered a blood transfusion.

Another wasted death due to faulty counterfeit theology..sad.

Many have been killed due to this flawed theology.

The sad thing about it is, is that the Organization is slowly changing the rules about blood transfusions. It use to be that you could get disfellowshipped for having an organ transplant.

Can you imagine the grief and the outrage, if you faithfully allowed a child to die due to a belief that organ transplant is a sin, only to have your church tell you that they were in error over their thought on such a procedure.

The ORG> is slowly changing their stance on Blood transfusions...It is already a matter of conscience in countries like Bulgaria, and It will soon be a matter of conscience in Canada.......God must favor the Bulgarians and the Canadians!

Thinking people see how ridiculous this is..It is my hope, that soon the Witnesses will see this too...until then, all we can do is pray.

In 100 years from now, had she lived, they would all be dead....

This is a matter of choice... Even in religion, men make bad choices. You cannot blame God for a man's bad decision. You can certainly blame that man who believes that he is doing well by God.... That is what someone taught him....... and he followed their way..... They were taught: do not take in the blood of a person because it is the life of a person, do not eat or drink it.....

If this person were taught that the blood would save the life, and God is for the man who seeks to save his brother, would he make a wrong decision?

- it's the teacher that's the problem! we are told to be ware of them.....

Ginger

it shows there faith i suppose.... they must believe deeply in it, but those poor children and the family.
it must be a conflict of interest to the hospital staff too just to have to let someone die because they refuse the appropriate treatment

I think it's a complete waste of a life.

Her husband, refused also to sign a consent form for her to be given a blood transfusion.

I'd like to say I admire their conviction, but I find it difficult.
