If you grew up as a girl, became engaged to a man, then found out in blood tests that you are actually male (XY), is it a sin to marry the man you are engaged to?

Despite having external female genitalia and breasts, because you are genetically a man, does this mean that you must now attempt to find a woman who will marry you?

Or is it an abomination for anyone who is physically incapable of creating children to get married and have a lifetime partner?

I have heard the phrase "God doesn't make junk," and since so many people exist who are neither clearly male or female, and so many Christians claim strict sexual rules, how do those rules apply to people who are assigned--in the womb--a gender that is neither plainly male nor female?

Please check my hyperlinks.
This is a serious question about real physical conditions that exist. Feel free to ask your personal family physician about it.
If you read the text at the links I provided, you will understand better how this happens.

Please, dispense with the responses that indicate this is unlikely. AIS alone occurs in about 1 in every 20,000 births. This means that at the time of the 2000 US census, roughly 400 people in New York City were affected.

Please read the information in the links I gave before you make uninformed wisecracks. Thanks.

Too much to read!!! I do sympathize with you... The Bible doesn't address this kind of problems! If you ask the average preacher... they would tell you to live by your birth certificate gender. Unless you can keep yourself in the closet you are posing a very serious problem for the clergy. Most members of the clergy are outwardly of a prudish Victorian orientation and they don't view this problem as a natural case, but as some kind of Devil messing even today... as you say "God doesn't make no junk"! AHHH, but God can change that... "God changes things" you need to get on a lot of fasting and prayer... And for God's sake! don't bring it up... Please keep it for yourself! You are screwing up the whole Bible idea and it is a bad testimony for the Church of Jesus Christ... There is no record of any miracle done on a freak in the Bible so you are on your own... No fundamentalist church would have a place for you! why you are open to make people wonder about their sexual preference, too... and about same sex marriages! and only GOD knows what else!

BTW, a few years ago I believe I read somewhere of a case of a baby born with a gender that was not easily defined so the parents picked the gender for the baby and there was some surgery done, but when the baby grew up it was favoring the opposite sex of what was impossed on him and I don't remember what happened after that.

No human being is junk or an abomination because of physical issues, although society may make people feel like they are. Junk and abominations result form bad character. As with any physical difference, we have to adapt and succeed with life the best we can. Since the differences in this issue are mainly inside the body, in the living of day to day life, it's no different from being infertile. Why would anyone else need to know the cause of infertility, even a fiance? What purpose would it serve since the trait will not be inherited by anyone?

People who have more obvious physical issues, have to make tougher choices. Still, with strong support, a willingness to endure the pain, and a well-endowed savings account or insurance these individuals can become whatever they want in societies with advanced medical care. In less technically advanced societies, they are likely to be either revered as semi-magical or killed at birth.

I don't know why you are what you are but I think the first thing I would do is share with this man that your test came out to have the same cromozones as he has...I would not call myself a man at this point. I may go to the dr and ask questions like am I likely to grow a beard someday and if so are there horemones to prevent this. I see nothing wrong with you and see there should be no changes in order. It would be quite different if you were claiming it has always been your hearts desire to be a male.
People get baby's in all kinds of different ways these days. If you want a child you should also share that with your up comming spouse.
Best Wishes

I wouldn't be too concerned about Christian values, after all, they are based soley on ideals. Whether one supports them or not is a totally different matter. I believe we live in a more tolerant society, especially when dealing with issues sush as gay men and women marrying. Something that happened to you while you were in the womb which makes you different from the nor - if we are the norm! - shouldn't except you from having a happy and fulfilling life. Bugger what anyone else might feel. Do whatever it is that makes you happy. I'm sure every one wishes you well.

1. I disagree on the unfit issue. Almost all the doctors I have had were very fit. My last doctor before I moved he was an ex military doctor (he was my general practitioner), not bad looking. Do you notice how Coaches NEVER look good or healthy they have big stomachs. What's with that? 2. On Lawyers: Their whole existence is surrounded by money. They remind me of a shark. How would like to be married to a person who is a District Attorney or equivalent. I would never marry a lawyer. But I would want a "shark" when I need to be represented in court. :)

A hermaphrodite is a person who possesses the sexual organs of both male and female. The Bible does not address hermaphroditism. Therefore, it is difficult to doctrinally ascertain the Lord's position about them. Nevertheless, what are we to make of hermaphrodites?
God's intention of the sexes is that those born males act like males and those born females act like females. But, in rare instances there are babies born with the sexual organs of both sexes. Why is this? First of all, sin is in the world and it sometimes takes its tolls on our bodies resulting in various deformities. Nevertheless, in the case of hermaphroditism, the identity of the individual is still intended by God to be one or the other. After all, God would not make someone in contradiction to His created order and purpose. This means the hermaphrodite, thought physically ambiguous, does possess an identity of one or the other. It would seem best, then, to let the hermaphrodite grow and decide which gender to side with since he/she would know his/her own identity internally. If surgery is elected to make the decision permanent by altering the body to represent one or the other sexes, then that seems like a reasonable choice to make.
Second, it appears that most, if not all, hermaphrodites have a definite side they take as they develop since there is an internal genetic (XX, XY) dominance even though there is an external ambiguity. It is the internal genetic dominance that determines male and female -- even though sometimes mutations occur that leave both sexual organs. In some cases, there are hermaphrodites who are distinctly male in appearance yet have female sexual organs. There are also those who appear decidedly feminine in physical appearance yet possess male sexual organs. Either way, the genetic dominance is the sex and the person will manifest that dominance as he or she matures.

Wow. this is a lot for you to take in, I am sure. The first thing I would suggest is getting some professional counseling on dealing with it. As far as marriage goes, sexuality is a lot more than the physical equipment. MANY people are not capable of having children. That does not mean they are not entitled to getting married. I wish the best to you and your future husband.

What has Christianity have to do with any of this? Any religion that excludes people is not good. If my husband died would it be wrong for me to get remarried considering I am post menopausal? That is ridiculous. The churches have archaic rules surrounding sex for procreation and these should not interfere in your life. A lot of churches are accepting homosexual relationships as they harm no one. I think that you are taking things too far. Many hermaphrodites have ben raised in the wrong gender and are often comfortable with it.

Sadly, humans have such a difficult time dealing with homosexuality, that bringing up hermaphroditism will just make people go bananas.

However, there is a lot of evidence that there are lot of people out there who are genetically not quite male or female, owing to genetic mishaps during early development. The law has not even begun to deal with these issues and hermaphrodites simply have to choose a gender, or live a life of quiet isolation. I really feel sorry for them.

How can a religion be perfect if it does not answer these situations which are a reality. Go with what your hormone dictates. There is no sin in whatever you do. Dont bother about the various religions, as if there really is a sin, the sin is more with a creator who having created does not give clear answers in situations like this.
