What kind of nutcase warns a KID that the "world is coming to an end?

There's a young girl who asked a question, about when the world was gonna end. She said her @!!^%$& parents go around lamenting, "The world is going to end so you'd better prepare!"

Now, that's not bad enough ... but some fundie freakazoids, after reading the girl's question, & obviously (if they had even ONE functioning brain cell) concluding that she's scared & wants assurances ... WENT AHEAD & TOLD HER THE FRIGGIN' APOCALYPSE WAS COMING & WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!

WHY WOULD ANY IDIOT DO THAT ... AGAIN ... TO A KID?

I am bewildered at the complete & utter lunacy of an answer like that!

1. Do they not have an ounce of compassion in them?

2. Can they not offer REAL advice?

3. Are they so wrapped up in their narcissistic God-mania that they can't suspend the freaking lectures for ONE ANSWER in order to calm the fears of a youngster?

(I can't believe some of these people.....)

The Britt - My "momma" died of emphysema not too long ago, I miss her terribly, and so it wasn't her. Thanks for being a moron ... AGAIN.

laramoremichael - I am an agnostic & the way I feel about the "end times" propecies coming true now is ... earthquakes & famines & disasters & disease have been obstacles for humankind for millennia. What's different today is ... we have the media blasting it in our faces every minute of every day.

When Pompeii felt the earth tremble, they said it was the end of the world. When the Black Plague hit, it was the end too. Same with the The Great Depression, WWII, Chernobyl, Katrina, .... all disasters that came & went. But the media keeps on. And when they don't have a wildfire or a flood or a landslide to dramatize over & over & over ... they create "The Anniversary of 9/11." It's in our faces 24/7. We can't get away from it. But I'll bet countries that don't have electricity or TV's are blissfully ignorant of this latest coming of Armageddon, according to the Christian alarmists.

Children do NOT need to know our wild guesses about their deaths. It's cruelty X 100.

Don O - Don't Christians feel any embarassment about the fact that they ALWAYS say the world is gonna end ... and it never does? Don't they reason that if they simply clam up about it, then they won't be making fools of themselves?

For thousands, count 'em! Thousands of years! The Christians have been crying, "The end of the world is nigh!" It's been really comical! I've seen satirical cartoons about them and they make fun of them in the movies! And I mean that in a non-antagonistic way. It's just absolutely silly.

And I don't get why Christians feel they MUST tell me constantly that we're all gonna die. Are they afraid I'll blame them personally if I croak and they hadn't told me I was going to a moment before it happens?

Asa Christian I don't believe it's right to go around simply frightening people. However i do believe that Christ will return and the world will end (no I don't know when).
Assuming for one minute that Christians are right in their belief how would you feel if it came to the Day of Judgement and no-one had warned you? You would quite rightly feel very aggrieved that the Christians who were expecting this event just didn't bother telling you and giving you the chance to prepare for it personally.
You have the right to ignore what the Bible teaches but Christians have the responsibility to say what they believe God has told them to say.
If Judgement Day does come at least you will have to excuse now.

I'm not embarrassed because I truly believe it will happen; it might be next year or in 500 years time I don't know.
My reason for telling people is genuine; in the same way that if I knew a bomb was about to go off I'd warn people.
Having said that there is a lot more to Christianity than the impending Apocalypse!

Because they have a religious spirit and most likely have never known the real Jesus. The Jesus of love and peace and eternal life ... Don't hate the person... Ask them if they know the real Christ and if they think that Jesus would do something like that...
Faithful Christians tell children the truth about life and death ... but they tell it in a loving way that assures and edifies that child that they should not worry because the King of the Universe is looking over them and holds them in his hand... Ask the Adult about what Jesus said about Mill Stones and hurting little children... and then tell them to assure them in love.

I'm not sure I understand your anger. If you could reference the question it would better help us know what you are talk about specifically. People, even Christians, are human and are subject to making mistakes. Their intentions are good but their means are not. Yes, reassurance would be helpful in this situation but a Christians our first responsibility is to the soul of the individual. The Bible says that we know not the time nor the place when the end comes. We could live until a ripe old age or die tomorrow. It could be generations before Christ comes again or it could be tomorrow. The real advice depends on whether or not this person is saved. If she is not than damnations awaits for her but if she is than eternal life becomes her reward. Sometimes, as a Christian, I forget that some people want to be told that all is o.k. and that they do not have to worry about tomorrow. Unfortunately I cannot force myself to make that statement. I am obligated to testify to truth of what the Bible says is to come, like it or not. Yes, the end is near, either by natural causes or through the second coming is uncertain. The only thing that one can take comfort in is the knowledge that salvation through Jesus Christ is offered to all. In accepting it, fear of what tomorrow will bring fades and is replaced with a peace in the knowledge that regardless of what tomorrow brings life eternal awaits. If you are not save, may you heart be opened to recieve his salvation. If you are, may God bless and keep you safe.

To be honest, it's just interesting and fun to chase down and investigate things like this. Teens and kids are actually extremely interesting in stuff like the illuminati and the end of the world.

A "nutcase" who's telling the truth.

There are ways of talking to kids about all of this without scaring them to death.

edit:

If this world and it's concerns are all you believe in, yes, I suppose the concept of "the end of the world" would be a somewhat frightening and scary one. To a child who has had the proper religious and theological education and training, they know already that the end of the world is not something to fear or dread. In fact, the end of this world leads to something far far better. A world with no more war, no more greed or hate, no more tears or suffering. That, IMHO is something for everyone to look forward to, including small children.

I agree that a more sensible way of explaining the Bible prophecies regarding the second coming of Christ would be more effective. But, I have to ask you, "What is the REAL advice?" If you are an atheist, than I understand where you are coming from. But if you are a Christian and have read the Bible, you can plainly see that it may not be in our lifetime but we ain't got much longer. The Bible prophecies regarding the end times are occuring at a most increasing alarming rate. You have to admit that. Right?

*Sticks his hand up*

I've told kids all sorts of funny stuff.
I used to tell my youngest brother that if he fell asleep facing the wall that a dragon would come in through the window and eat him while his back was turned.

So yeah... I've warned children of Ragnarok quite a few times.... but I also said it was ok... because they'll get to die a glorious death in battle. ^_^

A brainwashed jerk would do that. It's a fear factor that the nuts use to try and get others to join the religion. It's been 2000 years, and people are still saying Jesus will be coming back soon.

One of these days, hopefully, religious indoctrination of children will be legally actionable as the child abuse that it most certainly is.

Wouldn't count on it anytime soon, at least not in the US. We'll be recovering from the effects of Pope Dubya I for decades...
