Since my last child was 3 months old I have been perscribed amytriptaline as an anti-depressant and since its been 10 years plus I'm interested to hear from other users who can reassure me. Especially since there is a side effect I am experiencing. The pills help me sleep, and prevent migraines. I have tried recently more modern drugs with poor results...amitryptaline has been around for approx. 50 years and seems the best alternative for me. What side-effects are you experiencing and how have you coped or treated those long term side effects?

I took it for a while, but found it was a bit too sedating and left a foul taste in my mouth. I was never able to increase the dosage to the levels the doctors reccommended for my fibromyalgia.

I was on this drug for about 6 years and I thought it was fantastic, no side effects, felt great etc etc anyway i started to feel lousy and got diagnosed with BIH and had 11 lumber punctures and 2 different Nero surgeries, after doing ALOT of research i discovered that many of the patients diagnosed with life changing BIH also have been on Amitryptaline. Id the depression linked or the drug or neither who knows and there is not enough research and probably not a significant number of BIH suffereres compared to the amount of people walking around happily on this drug, all I can say is I wish I hadn't taken it and perhaps tried a different drug. (plus it causes yellowing of the teeth and i always had lovely pearly whites!!)

I took amytriptaline for about ten years; it helped me sleep and relieved muscle pain.
One day I had a bad attack of constipation, and the doctor advised me not to take it anymore. And I didn't. I really don't think it caused the constipation, but then I felt all right without it, so I didn't go back to taking it. So, I think I can say that it didn't cause me any side effects.
