maybe u could start searching some of your problems which are not yet resolved.. maybe you don't know them yet.. and it's better to spend some time with yourself and reflect.. you could also go to a quiet place as you explore yourself more..

or you could go to the beach or a nice spa to relax... maybe your brain is also sick of being active all the time..!! hehe..

anyway, good luck..!!

let go of some things.. maybe you're just tying them around your head all the time..

You mentioned you excercise. Doing it at nite keeps you up. There are other natural sleep aids in the health food store that would help. Talking over your problems helps to alleviate the thoughts that are keeping you awake. Some people like to journal, just as long as you get the thoughts out. It's 4 am for me and I can't sleep(cause I'm on here) so I took 1/5 of a sleeping pill which is just enough to put me to sleep but not get me groggy tomorrow. Watching the weather channel or something boring knocks me out at nite.

I hear if you get up and go to bed at the same time you develop a good sleep habit and that makes you sleep better. Of course, I don't do that myself and is why I have sleep problems too. I use my Ambien to help me but it's probably not good to do that all the time. You may want to try lifting a few weights a little while before you go to bed. Not too many weights or too soon before bed but that has helped me in the past getting to sleep.

Well my wife loves going to the hot tub. I provides great blood flow and relaxes the body. She also uses an herbal eye pillow.
For me I sometimes borrow her eye pillow when I can't sleep. When my mind is going, I usually listen to music. At first, I tried the soft, r&b, classical stuff but that didn't help. Oddly enough, I changed it to hardcore and metal....and I'm knocked out in less than 30min.

I don't have much to add to everything said above besides the fact that I do not recommend taking any kind of Ambien.
Especially if you have a naturally addictive personality.

I know you said you don't want to take anymore pills, but I just thought I would throw that out there.

I have the same exact problem. Especially when i have a lot on my mind. I end up staying up till about 4 o clock in the morning until i force myself to sleep. I hate taking medications because they often make me even sleepier in the morning & I'm not able to wake up. What I do now is I try to concentrate on my breathing. Listen to yourself breathe. It calms you down & takes away a lot of thought's going on in your head. --- Try it tonight & see how it goes. Good Luck to you! I have a lot of sympathy for us insomniacs!

Ambien CR really helped me
it is close to impossible for me to fall asleep by myself. the CR stands for controlled release, so the ambien helps you fall asleep fast and the controlled release helps you to stay asleep.

and its said to be non addictive
i havent used it long enough be able to answer that.
