I was raised to believe that we go to heaven if we're good and hell if we're bad. And I struggle with the thought that once we die, we die and that's it. What are your beliefs or experiences? There are no wrong answers here. Just wondering what other people believe or if you've had a near death experience, feel free to share it!

Here is a long explanation but very informative and biblical.

" Here is what the Bible says: “As the [beast] dies, so the [man] dies; and they all have but one spirit . . . All are going to one place. They have all come to be from the dust, and they are all returning to the dust.” (Ecclesiastes 3:19, 20) There is no mention here of a fiery hell. Humans return to dust—to nonexistence—when they die.

In order to be tormented, an individual has to be conscious. Are the dead conscious? No. “The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten.” (Ecclesiastes 9:5) It is impossible for the dead, “conscious of nothing at all,” to experience the agonies of hellfire.

How is it, then, that some people, after being revived, report having experienced life beyond “death”? Surely, not all the people who report these things are lying, are they?

Possible Explanations:

From youth on many people have been inculcated with belief in an afterlife, and so these ideas about immortality are embedded deep in their minds. Dr. Nathan Schnaper, who sees many of these revived patients, discounts their stories as psychological fantasies. “These people are experiencing a vacuum,” he says, “and psychologically we can’t abide a vacuum. It’s a void that must be filled, so they invent these experiences.”

This is not to say that they do this intentionally. Significantly, patients under medication also have reported hallucinations and out-of-the-body experiences. Similarly, in the critical minutes while a patient is near death—when the heart stops pumping blood, yet before the cells die—the brain’s oxygen-starved condition produces extraordinary effects. Those who recover may be merely reporting the results of this altered state. Julian DeVries, the medical editor of the Arizona Republic, identifies such factors as being responsible for the experiences reported.

“When physical prowess is at its lowest ebb,” he writes, “as under anesthesia, or the result of disease or injury, automatic control of bodily functions diminishes accordingly. Thus, the neurohormones and catecholamines of the nervous system are released and pour out in uncontrolled quantity. The result, among other manifestations, is the hallucination, rationalized after returning to consciousness, of having died and returned to life.” "

From a stand point of religion there is the afterlife which comes after you die. But from the none religious standpoint there is simply nothing after you die. From the scientific standpoint a spirit weighs 23 grams because that is exactly how much each bodie losses just after they die. To be completely honest I go back and forth with this question all the time. My satisfying answer is that if there is a God he would understand my logical thinking behind my reasons and would accept me if it were to be that way. If there is not a God and my brain and heart just stop, then i retreat to nothing but my own blackness and it would not matter what I believed before I died becuase now it is nothing. So you could believe and have nothing happen or you could not believe and have something bad happen if God really does exist. Since I have this freedom, I believe that nothing happens so if you don't put your body on the donors list you are only affecting someone elses life becuase your body is done with it...be a good citizin and contribute. Nothing happens!

As a christian,I believe that when we die, there is Eternal Life in Heaven with God,as long as you belief that Jesus died on the cross for everyone. He did it so that we would not have to suffer in Hell after death. And doing good works is not the way to get us to heaven, because,in the bible,it says that salvation is the way to heaven,as when we believe that Jesus died on the cross for our sins,it means that he hs already paid the price the price for our sins, as longs as we confess our sins,God is faithful and just and will forgive us of all unrighteousness.

I believe that we do live after we die. I have a friend who had a heart attack and "died" but he had an out of body experience that was remarkable because he actually had a conversation with God. He said that it was like stepping out of his clothes. He didn't feel any emotional attachment to the body he saw crumpled on the lawn of his home. He was aware of everything around him and even moved away from his body. He was alone beside a road in front of his house and his farm was on the other side of the road as well as his art studio. He passed by his art studio about forty feet away from his body when he suddenly said to God, "God, I can't go to heaven right now. My wife doesn't know how to do the taxes and we're redoing the farm house. She won't know what to do. I can't leave her right now." He actually convinced God that he needed to stay and help his wife. And instead of God putting him back into his body, God brought his body to his soul and put his soul back into his body. His body got up and walked to his soul. His wife was in the art studio and saw him crumple back down on the stairs so she called the ambulance and they got him to the hospital where he came back to life. When he told me this I was amazed but he was sincere about it. I know he did have a really bad heart attack.

All who died will be judged in that Day, those who know Jesus Christ as Savior will be resurrected to live eternally in heaven and those who do not believe in Jesus Christ will be ressurrected to be condemned and punished accordingly in hell:

John 5:27-30 and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man. Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth – those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.

I know the truth, because I kept doing what I wasn't supposed to be doing, and that wasn't Gods plan for me, Being Good is not how we go to Heaven, Jesus Christ went to the cross so we could be saved, We are all born into sin, which seperates us from God, So Jesus Christ, Gods only son, Had to come in the flesh to take our sins to the Cross, Jesus was perfect and free from sin, When We believe Jesus Christ is the one who saves us, who had Mercy on us, and Loves us, then we will Repent, turn away from our sins, and ask to be forgiven, this is what saves us, We ask Jesus Christ to come into our lives, then we will be filled with The Holy Spirit.
We are saved through Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ alone, not our good works, Because He loves us.
My experience is to not turn away from that Love, I have had way beyond near death experiences, and can testify to this being the truth about The Lord, I have been in ICU, hanging on, I have seen things no one would ever want to see, I know God loves me, and never gave up on me. And I know that The Lord loves us all, and wants us to come to Him, God doesn't want to be seperated from us, WE are His Children, would you want to be seperated from your children if you have them, or had them, We are seperated by sin, and the only way to be cleansed is through Jesus.

You don't go to heaven because you helped people all your life and you don't go to hell because you're a serial killer. You go to heaven if you accept Jesus as your Savior
