Usually it's the poppy that is used to symbolize remembrance. This is due to the poem "Flanders Fields" from WWI where many soldiers died and now poppies grow on the battlefield. I think perhaps white carnations as well, but I'm not sure.

I know red poppies represent Veterans, but I don't think there's one specifically for the Air Force.

The flower the VFW and other Veterans' Groups sell on Veterans' Day is called the "buddy poppy."

Red poppies..as in the poppies of Flanders Fields...(they have a red poppy charity drive every year for veterans.)

the poppy is used on Veteran's day. most American Legions will be out with them very shortly.
