I think the western world is the first to admit there is a problem with pedophilia.
We have done the same before with alcoholism and addiction (think Betty Ford) and more people get treatment.
Now that we deal with it openly and stringently plus are working on removing the stigma of guilt from the abused, other cultures may see us as having a problem while in fact they are not dealing with their own.
My Iranian friends who hate their government maintain most of their clergy are child abusers. I have no evidence, just their statements.
Where there are humans, you will have pedophiles. Religion tends to provide a safe haven for some, but they are not protected by civil law in the western world. In some countries, monks or priests are held in such high regard, none dare charge them with molesting children.

i have to agree that some "Christian priest" do evil things and carved wicked thoughts. but cursing them aint the answer either. i noe u felt painful and bad for the victims so do God above. The bible did spoke and warn us against false prophets. because a men who walk in the light of God will not do things to disobey him. and about u asking u dont c bhudist monks doin it well u r wrong. and about muslim priest? well not trying 2 debate trying 2 let u noe they r......a bhudist monk recently sexually abused a godchild of his and when into hiding in the place where i'm living. a muslim priest recently was sentence to jail and lashing for molesting a girl.
there is alot of such things in this world. But God feel their pain and He wil punish those who are wicked. The enemy comes to lie, steal and kill...Only in God may you find truth.
when you know the truth, the truth shall set you free. For the Lord says in His words, "I will curse those who curse you, and i will bless those who bless you" "do not judge less you be judge"

First of all, it is not acceptable to hurt another person in any form or matter, we are told to love one another, and just because a person claims they are something does not mean they are, a person truly of God would not harm anyone, and when a catholic priest molests a child, that person is not saved, and yes I will tell you the only way is through Christ when people start saying they are something they are not it hurts testimony, people will use any form of deceit to gain what they want, The devil can read scripture, and if that can happen a person can pretend to be a priest, if someone doesn't have the Lord, they simply do not, no matter what they say.

the answer: YES, i have heard of such thing happening. There are cases amongst the religious scholars of buddhism, islam, shintao.
The thing is, i personally think that we cannot blame the religion but the person who are practicing it.
i mean, there is no religion in the world that legalized child abuse, molestation or any other devilish misdeeds. the problem is the person who practice it - how devoted they are and how they interpreted their religious rulings correctly.
maybe, those who did it does no practice what they preach and i am sure that there are pusnishments awaits them in here or in hell. we'll have to wait, see and believe.

Very true. I agree with everything you said. I've only heard of priests molesting children.
I used to live in Japan and in a country where the majority is Buddist child abuse and molestation is very very low. The whole time i lived there i never heard one case!
As for the person who said media isn't large in Asian countries that is a load of ****! Japan, and most Asian countries, tend to keep to themselves alot and 99% of the news is on stories within their country.

There is no relation between religion and child abuse. A man without religion is more on the tendency to commit child abuse.
The priest is not a religion but a human being who is punishing a child for his wrong doings and in his punishing him (child) he (priest) did not connected with his being a religious man but as human. TANGA
Are you TANGA?

people are putting the trust and authority that they have because of their position of spreading the "word of god" into horrible acts such as this

I think the US has a very extensive media that thrives on scandals which is why we know more about the scandals in our country then say in Arab countries where the press is not so free or even many asian countries.

I don't know of any Buddhist or Shinto monks abusing kids (not to say that it never went on).
I've heard stories of Muslim imams who have abused kids (not sexually) under their tutelage, though.
