There's a lot of truth in it. While Osama Bin Laden is despised in the West, he is seen as a hero in many Islamic countries. Hugo Chavez in Venezuela is described as an oppressor by the US media, but seen as a hero by his people. Lots of similar examples.

I believe it is a cynical view of world most of the time. If Bin Ladin is like George Washington, then an American has no reason to be proud of his country. Terrorism is not the same as fighting for your country and it's citizens when they are opressed. Terrorism is a crime. Fighting in a just war is defending the lives of your countrymen.
