I've recently been talking to an old friend that i USED to date. We messed around, but never had sex. My brother's are very over- protective & tried to fight him at a party. He got scared & texted me & said that he thought it would be best to just be friends. I explained to him that i never thought of it as nothing more than just friends, & that my brother's have nothing to do with our friendship. He replies with "Conflict of interest. U DIG?" ---

I don't know if he's just trying to get out of getting more serious with me, or if he DID think of us as more than JUST FRIENDS?

...Guy & girls please reply. Am i the one getting rejected in a nice way??

A conflict of interest would mean maybe he works with your brothers and them trying to beat him up won't do well in a working relationship - basically two interests involving the same people don't work together.

I think he basically doesn't want the drama of your brothers who obviously need to grow up. I would probably drop you too. No offense but you need to set your brothers straight or move away.

If you have a conflict of interest, that would mean you can not be in any position to be objective in your answer. Like if you asked a friend if you should give another friend a gift an the other friend wanted that gift to say you should give it to me
that would be awkward. you need to ask your brother might know about this guy he might know something you don't.
Like the guy might have a habit of speading your an his relationship to the whole world. Guy's are pigs trust me.

i believe what he is saying is he wants more to remain friends with your brothers than carry on with you..Example of conflict of interest is , if you work for company A that is in competition with company B and you decide to take a part time job at company B, that would be a conflict of interest

It sounds like he wanted more than just be friends... I have been rejected as well, but is better to break it before there are deep feelings involve. Specially when you guys were not in the same page.

I don't think he used that term in the correct context but yeah if he really liked you, he'd want to see you regardless of what anyone's opinions were on you 2 dating. Move on and don't waste your time on him.

He can't be both just friends(as you stated) & get more serious to. Also keep getting his butt kicked or be friends with you. It's got to be one or the other.

yes. sorry to say you got rejected in a nice way. he was smooth about it if he had you question it also.

i also think your brothers saved him by giving him a reason to push off.

well played for him.

Yes. And who wants to be hassled when ever they try to see you? Maybe your brothers ought to date him instead. My guess is they're jealous.
