No, God gives you free will, so if Mary declined in fear or what-not, God would have not forced the decision on her (this was not neccessary because He knew Mary would be obedient).

But it all worked anyways becaues God knows all things and he knew she would accept the responsibility (even before she was born, he knew she would say yes! like it says in Jeremiah 1:5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you.").

God is perfect and all-knowing. He wouldn't have asked her in the beginning if she was not fit for the role (and if she was to say no).

We need to stop putting God into the limitation of our minds. He is way smarter, wonderous, and greater than us. He is capable of anything! So.. he definitely knew.

But overall, free will is a gift that God willingly gives us. Which is why Mary is venerated greatly by many people. She showed what the ultimate obedience was.

Mary was chosen because of her strong faith and devotion to God. I'm sure God knew that and that may very well be one of the reasons she was the one to carry this out. God knew she would not say no. The fact is that Mary was glad--rejoiced. Anyway, it isn't worth considering, because she didn't say no.

God created people in His image which means that He created them with free will. Mary could have said "No" and maybe we would have had Judith or another 'Mary' as the mother of Christ. If God had created Mary as unable to say "No" then He wouldnt have created a mother suitable to the enormous task. She certainly didnt have an easy time of it, what punishment could be crueller to a mother than to see her child in pain killed as Mary did?

I wouldn't live my life based on "What if"'s, like some people I know.

However,

she probably would've been punished because of the disobedience (Or simply, not blessed by God). God would've chosen someone else, and the Catholics wouldn't worship someone named Mary.

I just have one thing to say on this, Mary 'THE VIRGIN', was actually NOT a virgin. Christianity thought it would spice things up a bit and allow more people to believe and follow their religion if they said she was. If your studied the history of religion, you would know this. Jesus has 3 other brothers before him. Try and look it up online. When I heard this in my World Religions class, I was totally disgusted with Christianity and everything it stood for. I am a former Christian and not proud of it for the lies they have fed us and the world.

While I appreciate what you are saying I don't think it makes sense. Assuming that God is all knowing, he would pick someone willing.

first of all God knew that she would say yes, however, if she had chosen to say no- He would have blessed some other young woman- God's will cannot be thwarted
