So I was in a bad car accident a couple of weeks ago and the doctors have me on Valium. I haven't had to take it recently but I really want to now cause I am in tons of pain, can't sleep and having awful muscle spasms. The problem is about 7 hours ago I had 2 glasses of wine, and another glass about 1 hour ago. I don't feel any effects from the wine at all but I have heard you can't take Valium with alcohol. Any chance I would be able to take 1, 5 mg Valium? Or is it too risky???

Thanks~

You cannot drink when you take any kind of meds not just valium. Since you don't know when you will need to take a valium you would be wise to not drink at all until you are healed up completely from the accident. Go ahead and take the valium tonight but from here on in leave the alcohol alone until you are totally healed.

I seem to be in a minority of one here ! I've been on Valium [2 x 5mgs. daily for almost 20 years ], I drink 2 or 3 glasses of wine daily , no problem, I also have not had to increase dosage over the years, in fact I have slightly reduced it. So my personal opinion is, Valium is 'psychologically addictive, not physically', We are all different, I view my Valium as a diabetic views insulin, it just kinda keeps me normal / stable.

As you have not had the Valium on its own without previously drinking alcohol, I would not RISK it. They started me on 5mgs, which I took before going to bed as prescribed. I failed to wake up the following day or night and when I did come too, felt as if I was inebriated! Therefore I cut the pill in half, then started at half a pill every other day until I was able to take half a pill every day. I then returned to my Physician who prescribed the 2mgs pill and have been on that since. Would I want to now drink, umm no, am not willing to take the risk. I suppose it is a bit like having your very first alcoholic drink, you really do not know how it will affect you.

I would suggest that you don't combine wine and valium....NOT a good idea. Sorry to hear about the accident. Hope that you feel better soon!

Call a 24-hour pharmacy. They are so smart and nice and helpful. You can look up "Pharmacies" in the Yellow Pages.

You will get a correct answer to your tricky question. Good luck. :)
