You sound just like me when I was in college. I took a course called "The Old Testament as Literature" and it opened my mind...with the help of other courses such as Logic and such, yes....I was once were you are now. Confused.
I was a devout Catholic. And all of a sudden I was having so many doubts. The main question that circled my mind was "how do I know Catholic is the true religion if I do not know anything about the other relgions?" Philosophy opened this question in my mind. In any case, to make a long story short, what I did was learned about the three Monotheistics religions, i.e Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. Now, 10 years later, I am happy to say I am a deout Muslim. I have no more doubts in my mind and I feel I have chosen the right path.
So, this is what I recommend. If you have a genuine insterest in wisdom and learng the truth about God and the right path, learn more about other religions, compare and you will soon find your answer. I must warn you, that in this path of seeking wisdom, you will become more confuse. But don't drop your research, make friends from other religions and ask questions....You will eventually find the truth.
As for people being liers, and getting burned, and dog eat dog world, unfortunately, this is another lesson you must face in life. And you will decide wether to become a lier and a cheater, or wether you will become a person of integrity, who has respect for other human beings.
I am glad to say I a someone with good ethics and yes, sometimes I have the bad luck of dealing with individuals who are have no integrity. But just remember, the coward hides behind lies.
It all depends on the environment you are in. I used to work for an auto auction and faced working with liers, dog eat dog, type of personalities. So I simply found a different job.
Now I work in a school where my peers are people with the same level of intergrity which I admire and I am now happy. So, what I a saying is that in this world, there are all types of people.
Hope this helped a bit.

You will find bad, good, weak, strong, etc people of all faiths. I suggest taking a world religion class. See what you're comfortable with. I have noticed that those who are wealthy/popular, usually have hurt a couple of people along the way. Unfortunately, that's the way it works. Look at Hitler. He was pretty bad but I'm sure he had the best of everything for a while. He commited suicide but it was when he wanted b/c of whatever he believed. It's insanely infuriating to think he pretty much 'got off' after what he did, so you could imagine there are those who imagine there must be a Hell for him to go to.
I read once it was kind of the same thing for the Israeli tribe. It was really a dog eat dog world then and that religion gave them both motivation and a means to keep a large community together. Since time has gone by, those laws and even some morals (like not eating shellfish) are not applicable for the society we're in now. There are a lot of Greek myths and philosophies Christianity is similar to. I would take a world religion class to get a grasp on morals you're comfortable with.

marxism/leninsim comply with the beliefs of secular humanism. Since one is regarded to be aspect of a collective there's no truly cause to significance man or woman existence. It has been mentioned that secular humanism might espouse reincarnation. Cosmic Humanism: a ways too many strategies to merge right into a unmarried coherent concept. One might say that those who include this philosophy think in a type of reincarnation? You imply a one global order? Why does everybody worry this such a lot? Anyways. I could say that the marxists/leninsts do desire an international united as a collective in which persons paintings in combination to gain a natural target. Secular Humanism could like persons to paintings in combination with out killing every different over small matters. Cosmic Humanism could be so much the identical manner. Though there are a few persons inside the New Age motion who think that a spiritually constructed character shall be multiplied to a specific reputation, or that each person will end up spiritually multiplied at a specific factor in time, and that's whilst humanity will unite in peace and reside in concord. It's actually now not one of these terrible concept. Ya recognise, peace. Accepting different persons's variations with out criticism. To cross intensive with the sector order deal, you'll be able to must delve into conspiracy concept. If that is the form of know-how you desire you exhibit to the category, then via all way opt for it.

Interesting anaolgy : "Dog eat Dog World "
Indeed that is either the way evolved , or the way the Old Testament God created it . All sorts of animals torture and kill other animals for food ( and sometimes for recreation or territory .) MAN included . Seems a pretty brutal way for an All Powerful / All Good God to want !
So lets say this is the way it evolved : survival of the fittest . The creation way makes no sense unless God is a Sadist . The best we can do is play hard and as fair as the other person(s) will allow us to . Encourage those who need enlightment to try to play more fair because that is good for society ,and what goes around comes around . Try to live your own life so that you can be proud of yourself when you look in the mirror .
The Bible was written by men some 2000 - 4000 years ago dealing with the problems of those times . They were story tellers during very superstious times .

I had an issue with a person in a collection department a few years ago..(it was solved)
But, she .. because of her job and her peers was relentless at doing her job..mean, cold, nasty..
I had to resolve the matter by email and faxes, but in one of my emails, I said, Bless You and have a great day.
She, the collection person with the heart of stone, I thought, told me after many more emails, that she had been afraid to show her "faith" in case it effected her job situation and that her peers would make fun of her thinking because she was a believer, she was weak.
Make a long story short.. she said in the end.. "I will never hide my faith again, all these years I've hidden it and felt so guilty and sad" I can do my job and still have my faith. She had found the "middle ground" that's what you need to do.
By the way, I'm an atheist.. but I admire her and you for your convictions.. don't let them go.
best of luck to you

Our Soul Focus should be on The Holy Bible and Gods word, not any organized Religion, you have to be careful what religion you are signing up for, Jesus Christ went to the cross for our sins, for our salvation, and the only way to The Father is through The Son, We must Confess are sins before The Lord, turn from them and Repent, We must truly know this is how we are saved, nothing else can save us, not good works, not going to another church official, We must Go to The Lord , When these religions start adding rules, or certain things from the O.T. they are saying that our sins were not fully paid for by Jesus Christ, they might as well say you missed a nail, that is wrong, Jesus paid in full, and when we know that and come to accept it, WE know we are Saved, WE don't have to go to anyone else, We can talk to The Lord anytime, God is always listening, If we Invite Jesus Christ into our life, we are inviting in the comforter, Jesus Promised us we would not be left without a comforter, That comforter is The Holy Spirit, and when you Invite The Lord into your Life, You are filled with the Holy Spirit that will convict you of your sins, none of this has to do with Psycology 101 or anything else, simply Gods Word, exact scripture, Do you think, God would write a book so we could change it, add on too it, what makes anyone above God, nothing, When Jesus Christ said "It is Finished" on that cross, that is exactly what it meant, and until we recognize Jesus Christ as our saviour we will not truly have salvation, The only way to the Father is through The Son.

A less cynical answer:
The Old Testament repeatedly references that sinners will have good lives.
Why?
Because the Lord rewards all good deeds, and punishes evil. As such a man who lies, cheats, and steals will be rewarded in this life, and punished in the next.
So his life here will be good, but, presumably, he will suffer in Hell/Purgatory/Be cut off from the World to Come.
Those who are righteous suffer here as a test of faith, and recieve their reward after death.
In other words: Yes, it looks like bad people lead better lives. But, from a religious perspective, that's just a temporary thing until they die.
At least, that's my opinion.

You are buying into the worlds lies. You already answered your own question in a way. do you see that the world is a place where people are unfaithful and lie and yes it is a dog eat dog world. without faith in God there is no real reason to live. If we were just born to live in this world for 70-80 years and then die, life is one big joke. how do you get your faith back. remember that God does not move, we move away from him so move toward God in faith and you will have your full answer

You can choose to believe anything you want. Reason, logic and scientific thinking has had an affect on you and is causing you to rethink some of the things you were taught.

This "dog-eat-dog"-edness is just the end result of apes capable of abstract thought trying to fulfill their biological imperative and to continue to evolve. Sorry, hate to break the news to you.
