Jimmy is in 2nd place with a 15 point lead over Gordon in the 7th position . Jimmy moves into 1st and wins with a 30 point lead over Gordon who finished 7th . Where did he get 15 points for 1 spot . I know how the points are devided (1st thr 5th, 6th thru 10th and so on) but I cant get it to add up to 30 points .

It was actually a 39 point gain, since the #24 was 9 points ahead at the start of the race. I do know that first place gets the most points, and each subsequent spot gets a few points deducted. I also know that JJ got 190 total points, while JG got 151.

addendum: Winner receives 185 points, runner-up 170 points. After that they drop 5 points for each place up to and including 6tth place, 4 poiints 7th through 11th, and 3 points 12th and on. Also, 5 points for leading a lap, and 5 more points for leading the most laps.

7th place would be 146 points, plus Gordon led some laps, so 5 points for that. 151 points.
1st place is 185 points, 5 points for leading a lap. So Jimmy gets 190 points.

39 points difference.
