Hey guys

So, I am a EMT-P for the city of Calgary and my parter and I were called to the home of a 18 y/o male. When we arrived he had a severe migraine (Photosensitivity and all that) also he was experiencing body weakness and stiffness, dizziness and nausea. We got him into the ambulance put him on oxygen among other procedures did vitals.. they were slightly elevated. On route to the hospital he had sever pain from his head all the way down to his lower back he started screaming in agony and his arms and legs went numb. The pain was described as a sharp stinging pain. I went to do a BP but he screamed and ripped the BP cuff off. At the hospital he went into a grand-mal seizure. Since then he has had an MRI an CT done and nothing has come up...any ideas? History- A year ago he had a small lesion on his spinal cord from an MVA.

Any Ideas?????? Thanks!!!!!!

Well before you said anything about the MVA I was thinking nerve damage, cause of the numbness and stinging pain. It could be causing his head aches too.It sounds like it a result of the MVA but it sounds like there could be other problems besides just a spinal lesion.

MVA? All this symptoms can be found in Traditional Chinese Medicine....but, it will take some studying. The dizziness and nausea is general symptoms when the liver is under distress. The type of pain as sharp stinging pain is usually from a stagnation of the body's life force....the Qi....or blood. Acupuncture is an excellent form of medicine to study that gives everyday symptoms and what organ is under distress.

Could it possibly be some form of meningitis? I'm not sure if that would show up on an MRI or a CT scan or not, but a lot of the symptoms sound similar to what I've read about meningitis.

Edit: Oh, ok. Sorry I couldn't help.

Rule out an environmental toxin/poisoning event (heavy metals, chemicals, pesticides, drugs, etc.). Especially consider the possibility of 'synergy' - e.g. an interaction between a toxic exposure and medication that uses the same detoxification pathway (such as acetominophen and pesticides).
