Ok, my brother got caught yesterday stealing a tester bottle of cologne from macys. When he walked out of the store, he said that a guy with a cop badge stopped him and asked him for the merchandise. The guy said he would let him go and not to do it ever again. My bro(who was being very compliant with the officer) is scared that the guy was just saying that, and that he might look at the parking lot cameras and get his cars liscense plates and turn him in and we maybe get a ticket in the mail or something? do you guys think it will happen? hes so scared because hes 18 and he could go to jail.

If he let him go- he let him go. The cameras aren't that good, and then they would have to proove your brother was the one getting in the car....not to mention they would have to have access to look up the plate etc..they aren't cops. He didn't murder anyone, he tried to take a tester....not exactly the stuff of a CSI episode. Your brother got lucky, incredibly so, and hopefully realizes it and will never do something so stupid again.

if he gave the trinket that he stole back, they won't do anything. No report. No signature. No problem. They were trying to scare him away from doing some serious shoplifting. By the way...your brother is a retard and should probably stay out of stores in the future. Shoplifters...petty stupid crime at its most juvenile.

What's really a shame is that he was not prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Theft is theft, period. What will he steal next? Once a thief always a thief. Lock your valuables when he is coming to your home.

There will be no case because the item was taken again and no investigation was conducted for recording the irregularity.

No, he's all set. If they were going to nail him they would have then and there.
