I have never really gone to church and just started going with my girlfriend. I love the people there but I feel very uncomfertable when they are praying and singer songs and I don' know why. I want to believe in God and accept Jesus but struggle to do so and I feel terrible enough about it to post this question. Can someone give me some advice on how they feel about god and why or why not they worship him. I guess I want to belive in him but I don't know how.

I love God and I worship God because of who God is. I thank God for all that God has done for me through his Son, Jesus.

Most of the songs sung in a church are done to worship and thank God. I understand -- if you don't know the songs or what is going on in the worship service, it can make you feel a little strange and out of place.

You say you are struggling to believe, and I just want you to know that this is normal for a lot of people who become believers or are in the process of becoming believers.

You don't have to "know how" to become a believer -- it is a process and a relationship that grows. You have already taken more than the first step, by wanting to believe, struggling to believe, and attending a church.

What you can do is to ask God to help you believe and increase your faith. You can also read some of the Bible -- when I was first becoming a believer, I started with the book of Psalms and the gospel of John.

I hope this helps you, and God bless you as you begin to grow in faith and belief in him.

That's great. I think it is hard for people who do not go to church to get used to it. Let's face it. It's boring and I can't sing. I don't always go. Going isn't the main part about being a Christian. It is just believing, repenting your sins, studying the word, worshipping, prayers, and living his word in your everyday life. You can learn a lot from church but you learn even more by reading and taking notes. I don't consider myself to any denomination just because I made my own. Church is best because you will be around people with similiar interests and you make more friends and your spiritual support group grows.

1st thing you probably have more faith than you give yourself credit for,,,( I WANT TO BELIEVE) you said it..being uncomfortable in Church is not uncommon even if you grew up going to Church and visit another Church people are watching you, wondering who you are and so on, that's all you may be feeling? You need to understand one thing and that's all, your relationship with God is exactly that,,, yours, go to church if you choose and be there for Him and yourself, not for the other people there, and things will happen when He knows your ready for them,,,,you have the faith just go with that and you will learn more than you could possibly dream,,I can tell you this He want let you down, for me just when I think I will never get out of this mess,,,what ever it might be there He is...PS don't ever feel bad about asking any question,,the only stupid question is the one that was never asked!!!!

I'm gnostic.. which means.. i believe everyone.. should believe what they believe.. in short..thats what you should do..

you should never try to believe something that doesn't feel right to you.. "it's way better to be driving..and not know where you are going.. then to be out of gas in a place you don't belong" you aren't wrong for feeling weird at church.. just means something doesn't fit perfectly.. which is totally ok..research religions if you need to..and see what ideologies feel best for you.. or just take your time.. and try to look inside yourself.. build your own specific set of beliefs..

on a side note.. when you are at church.. does it feel like you just walked into GNC and and indian dude is trying telling you to how this new vitamin is awesome. and can do awesome things for you? or any other high pressure salesperson.. if so.. find your own pills.. :)

Seeking God is very easy. first u must change your mind set about God. Don't look at Him to be very far away from you or very Big for you. Let him be like your best friend, talk to him as if you are talking to your mother or father. try to know more about him by reading the Bible. The Bible will give you more knowledge about God and how you can be close to him. Try to practice what you read, And ask His spirit to be your guide

ya know, for some reason when i first started going to church, i was uncomfortable with the singing too. maybe it was because i didn't know the words and everything was so new to me. but eventually i felt comfortable with it, started singing along, and i really felt the holy spirit. my advice for you would be this: read the Bible on your own, the NIV or NKJV are easier to understand, pray about it when you're by yourself. God will show you. He showed me.

i know part of why i felt uncomfortable is that i felt like the people at church might be watching me and seeing that i didn't know what i was doing...then God helped me realized that only his judgement matters, i'm not there to judge, and no one was paying attention to me at church...they were paying attention to God.

God bless you!

The best thing you can do is talk to him, just talk as if he was a really good friend, and do it whenever, theres no right way to pray just talk. If you truly want to except him let him know and in different ways he will let you know he is there.
A really good book for men to read is Wild at Heart and The Way of The Wild Heart,
My girlfriend got me going to church and stuff it has brought us tremendously close

Why do you want to believe in God?

What reason do you have to believe in God?

Personally, I see on evidence for god. All I see around me has a natural explanation, or no reason for a supernatural one. We do not understand everything in the universe. But every time something unknown has been attributed to god in the past we have found a natural explanation of it.

And that is just a general god concept. The Christian god is a development of the Abrahamic god. Read the bible there are huge contradictions and flaw in this text. The god described is a vindictive, vengeful and demanding god. A god capable of genocides and mass slaughters. Does that sound like who you wat to worship?

Seems to me that you are looking to have a personal relationship - and that your style of communication doesnt include singing and praying in that style.

There is nothing wrong with that - it seems to me you need to get comfortable with how you chose to relate and/worship.
Strike out and see if you can find another church with a different style....

How do I feel about God? Eh - I dunno. But I do know that I've been to plenty of churches, and none of them strike me quite right, so I spend a lot of time (every night for a few minutes if possible) taking note of the stars, and the trees, and the wind....and for me, communing with nature is how I get my "god-fill-up"...

Be well

Well, after 60+ years of prayer and trying to find faith, I finally became agnostic. Look at it this way. IF any "god" exists, they have to be infinite or they are not "god". The finite human mind cannot understand the infinite. Therefore "god" is unknown and unknowable. Waiting for "god" to "reveal" himself will be a long wait. Blessings on your Journey.
