I would say if we measured the life expectency of Buddhists to Christians, the Buddhists would have a longer life expectency. This is not because of their faith, but because of the fact that so many Buddhists are vegetarians and it has been proven vegetarians live longer.
Therefore to be safe, you should become a Buddhist vegetarian immediately.
God's guide condones slavery, rapists marrying their victims and mass murder- so it has no validity to me.

I understand the mental battle all too well. The sea of doubt and fear are the foundations for everything unlike God and His idea. I lived at that address for a long time. But to put things simply, there is divine evidence that even tugs at you right now, otherwise you would not want to or need to post the seeming argument against a spiritual creation. I put down my frying pan awhile back and do not use it to get my point across. The big bang and evolution do explain all that is mortally material and subject to change and death. But only God explains truth and love being present in (even this seeming) mortal man made of dust.

It's stress. Stess'll kill you. If you can dodge the blame for everything bad in your life, and allay all your fears for the future, by believing with absolute certainty, that the universe is under the control of a benevolent creator who loves you and will make it all better after you die - I mean, if you /realy believe that/ - you'll have a lot less stress in your life, and you'll probably live a little longer.
Of course, people with Alzhiemers also live longer than average...

I don't think it is exclusive to belief. It has to do with positive thinking.
Now before you put words into my mouth, I am not in any way suggesting that non-believers are negative. But I think they tend to be more realistic. I'd be on cloud nine too if I honestly thought that none of the suffering in this life mattered, that there was some grand plan for me, and that after I died, there would be a heaven waiting for me.
Curious though, if you think a heaven awaits you after death, why be so concerned with how long you live in this life?
edit: specal k, indeed, the Okinawans are very long-lived, on average. They chalk it up to their relaxed mindset and diet, especially soy and fish. I lived there for six years.. beautiful place :) Unfortunately now with the arrival of more western foods such as breads, cheeses and beef, the younger generation is not as healthy. http://www.amazon.com/Okinawa-Diet-Plan-Leaner-Longer/dp/1400049539

No- that study encompassed religions from all over the world, including Eastern religions that don't believe in God.
Edit: I never tried to make it sound like Christianity wasn't included. I'm just saying it doesn't make the Christian God any more real than any other belief, because the studies didn't favor Christians over other religions. ANY religion helped people live longer, including, as I said, Atheistic Eastern religions such as Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism.
Yes, all religions have the Golden Rule, but they don't all have God.

It adds a small amount of evidence that BELIEF in a higher power of some sort might increase your chances of living a slightly longer life than the average non-believer.

People who believe in Santa Claus have almost a 98% survival rate over the subsequent 10 years.
Conclusion: Santa Claus is real and is the only way to eternal life.

Where is it proven that Christians/believers live longer? How can you possibly pretend to know what is in others hearts and minds?
Even Mother Teresa had grave doubts about her belief, and there is no one that can tell us what she was thinking at the moment of her death.
Awful presumptuous of you.
Final thought, my mother was a devout, "true believer" and died from complications from cirrhosis of liver at 63. She never smoked, never drank (alcohol or even caffeinated beverages), NEVER did drugs and did not ever have hepatitis. Yet died way too young.
Assumptions make an a** out of you and me.

1) Not sure if that is a fact
2) What guide? The dietary advice is arbitrary (like no shrimp)... it says nothing of good protein sources, of trans and saturated fats... of the importance of antioxidant rich vegetables... the exercise advice is non-existent
"Most religions are in agreement on main stream points"
Which points would those be? And once you tell us that, please let us know how those points have anything to do with health.
