I grew up with parents that are pretty naive and never believed their son had any problems. I was always a good student and got good grades but now that I am in the workforce I am noticing some of my short comings.

I have always been told by people that I am really spacey and that I have ADD. In seventh grade, a psychologist tested me and told my mother that I need to go on Ritalin, which basically my mom scoffed at.

I feel that i have a lot of potential but that I can't realize it. People at work have commented on me, that i don't focus and don't think, and i think it's a result of not being attention. There are some things I do really well at work, but I feel I could be one of the best at my job.

How can I get a prescription for Adderall/Ritalin?

Add is NOT a myth! I do feel however it is often misdiagnosed, and can be an easy answer. I personally did not get diagnosed till I was in my twenties, and have been on ritalin since. Ritalin has helped me greatly! I wish I had been diagnosed earlier in my life. When I told my mother that I was diagnosed with ADD she says I could've told you that when you were little. Being on medication has made me feel normal again I'm not as spacey, and I can complete a whole task without straying. One side effect I noticed was I get a little anxious if I don't eat enough before I take it.
I hope this helps
Good Luck

I can't stand these people who scoff at medicine. If they had a broken leg, would they turn down a cast because it's a 'crutch'? Go to a doctor and see what he says. Medicine may help, and it may also help you to take some classes in how to set goals and prioritize. I recommend Franklin Covey classes: they have a one-day class that's popular about deciding your priorities. Go to www.franklincovey.com. It's expensive, but you get a yearly planner with it, and your company may get a discount or may pay for the training. It changed my life; I think you should try it in addition to medication.

go to your general doctor and tell him whats going on. however, beware of becoming addicted - I need my adderall and it does help 100 percent - but it does make you live in "manufactured happiness" for most of the day............and you dont want it to wear off.

ADD is a myth. Unfortunately, many were encouraged to believe in Santa Claus as children, so they believe in lies like ADD and global warming when they get older.

I think that you are disgraceful in criticizing your mother, who understood the truth. Unless you issue a public apology, I think she should disown you.
