There are so many families and women with children out there who need help.Families are living on the streets, in hotels and a lot of these people have no where to turn. I'm starting a non profit org named give me a break. And the purpose of it is to help families pay their bills, food, financial training, home ownership classes and other needs. I can't do this by myself. It takes a community. I need people to make donations of cash, food, clothes, toys and other things. Please contact me if you are intrested in giving someone a hand up not a hand out. If you know someone who is an expert in one of the beforemetioned things please pass this on.

NOT on the basis of what you've said here!

Where's your prospectus? Non-profit paperwork? IRS letters?

You can't just "claim" to be a non-profit, there ARE legalities.

Good intentions are nice... but as the first poster said, please go through the appropriate channels to start a nonprofit and be able to accept donations legallly. There are many people out there who sound very sincere about wanting to help and solicit donations -- and then turn out not to be credible, and no one knows where the money goes.

Or, and even better idea: contact your local United Way agency and find out what organizations in your area *already* working to help the homeless -- they are probably all in dire need of the services and enthusiasm of someone like you, and then you wouldn't have to do any organizational paperwork, put together a board of directors, etc. -- you could hit the ground running, as we say, recruiting volunteers, generating donations and engaging in other activities on behalf of an established organization to help the needy.

This is a wonderful thing you are doing. With all due respect, I disagree with the answerer above. Where there are people suffering, it is only right to jump in to help in whatever way you can. Whether you are doing it on your own, as part of a registered organisation or as part of an unregistered organisation doesn't matter in the least. I have my own group dedicated to the welfare of people, animals and the environment alike.

What you should do is to ask your friends or the people in your community to join you on your project. They would have seen for themselves the same people living on the streets, and they are physically present, which puts them in the best position to help. Answerers on Yahoo Answers are from every corner of the world and as much as we would like to, we might not be able to help.

Once you have established Give Me A Break, start on a concrete plan. How will you help? Will you go searching for these people on the streets to give them food, clothes and money? Will you set up a permanent post in the poorest of districts, where families can go to you for help?

Get the authorities involved too. Take pictures, interview these people who are living in poverty, get to know their needs, tell them to the authorities and push for a better welfare system. Between having a good welfare system and having ordinary people who care, you can make great changes for the better.

All the best and thank you for being an ambassador of love! ^^

After you set up as a non profit, if you offer to pay someone's bills, don't just give them money. Have them bring you the bill and send the check straight to the company. Just a tip.
