Your doc would not be likely to reccomend something that would harm your kid. Penicillin is pretty innocuous as drugs go, although they may get a rash. VERY rarely, people can have severe allergic reactions, but usually patients will be asked to hang out in the doctor's office for 30 min or so after a penicillin injection to safeguard against such a possibility. If your doc is reccomending penicillin, then she is likely worried about some type of infection in your child, in which case it's probably a better idea to treat it with penicillin than let the infection go unchecked because you're afraid of antibiotics.
