Or how about a guilt trip? Something about Charles Darwin dying a sad death after being persecuted by the wicked so that children could learn about evolution…

The only way children in America society will become religious is if it is instituted form their parents. Here in America our society is very secular; we dont talk about God or Jesus in most movies, music, television, etc. We have one news corp who sometimes reports things that are a little less secular. We do have Christian bands, but they have very small budgets and dotn sell as many records, so the secualr groups have a much stronger foothold in our music. I personally dont meet alot of Christians anymore. When I meet someone new, I kinda figure they arent a born again Christian. So, you arent going to see Children taught religious anything for hte most part in the public square, you will see some (though its dwindling) in private homes.

Make your child read the bible cover to cover and I can almost guarantee they will never be religious.
If that seems too hard, try teaching them about the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, I'd bet even the Salem Witch trials would work. And don't just try to scare them out of Christianity, every religion has its screw ups. Show them those.

even while i replaced right into a christian, i in my opinion wasn't in a position to totally settle for that a loving god might deliver his creations to burn in eternal torment. i'm greater worried approximately coming up greater fundies than i'm approximately coming up greater rational thinkers. EDIT: certainly, that's no longer actual. An atheist tells his baby that they simply stay as quickly as, so as that they could desire to do each thing they are in a position to to make a mark in history. as nicely, why is the reality that we in basic terms stay as quickly as so terrible, anyhow? The greater finite something is, the greater useful this is going to become.

Why would I want to scare my children into being atheist. Its much more gentle and humane to allow them to come to the natural conclusion that there is no god.
Only organized religions needs to use scare tactics.

Children do learn about evolution. Public school is full of science and evolution. Do what my parents did, give the child a choice, educate them in both.

God Bless you, best wishes finding an answer to your satisfaction.

Why are you worried about kids becoming religious?
You should worry more that they grow up to be stupid jerks and that can happen no matter what they believe.

almost anything in the old testament would be enough to scare me. rape, kidnapping, slavery and infanticide just about does it for me. deuteronomy and numbers are especially enlightening.
