being a leader has nothing to do with being an officer in the military example is in spec ops the person who is the most capable in that field is in charge of that section of the mission even if they are an E-5 Sgt and everyone else has higher rank the officer is in charge of the overall mission as for myself I was put in leadership positions as low as a pvt with the temp rank of corporal You think about it you have an officer that went to collage for 4yrs and a 90 day school and you think they have the slightest clue of what really is going on (think about all the partying a school) being a leader is both natural and learned People become officers for many different reasons such as getting a degree or for the respect that an officer is required to be given etc

You become an officer in the military because you already have innate leadership abilities, so the officer route is a natural path to take.
Of course there are commissioned officer and non-commissioned officers.
Our Service Acadamies are full of "natural born leaders".
Example of a learned leader is an enlisted person climbing the ranks. I believe NCO turned commissioned officer would be more respected because they've been enlisted for many years.

A) You don't become a officer you go to college or get Thur military academy. B) Just because you are an officer does not make you a leader it just puts you in a leadership position.. I seem many officer who couldn't lead anything. The most important leaders are your Non-Commission Officer who have worked their way up through the ranks and earn the
respect of the people under them and yes some Officer do get this but they have to prove they deserve it first. If Officer comes in brand new and makes an A-- of himself he has loss his troops

You become an officer because you paid your "dues" and went to school. You should theoretically have the knowledge a leader would need. And while there may be some truth to this ie. Westpoint grads, the best leaders are natural born. It does take some knowledge to be a leader, but a natural leader is just that. I do believe though that someone who can get through the education to enter as an officer can learn to become a leader.

Go in as an officer. The military does have a lot of good training about leadership but it it seem to be a difficult concept for many to comprehend. One officer I heard about jumped on an enlisted guy because he looked at him funny. The officer should have inquired if the guy was alright. Bad leaders usually abuse their position in some way. One officer made everyone come to work regardless of their day off. When the officer above her heard about it, he came and shook everyone's hand. He didn't say anything but let everyone know how he felt about the situation. I bet he didn't have to say anything to her because she knew.

Commissioning sources (programs through which an individual passes on their way to becoming an officer) tend to select/admit people who have shown traits conducive to leadership (intelligence, honesty, confidence, etc).
These programs (ROTC, Academies, OCS, etc.) then attempt to mold/augment a person's "natural" leadership assets into a form useful to our military.
As an officer, you are "put in charge" of enlisted members, but that, by no means, proves you are a leader.

Most leaders are learned leaders. They learn how to direct troops by experience and training. Occasionally you will find a born leader - that is the type of person you want leading.
A good officer listens to his troops but makes his or her own decisions and sticks to them.

to become an officer you need a college degree and it would take a good NCO to shape you in to a leader.
