Normally egg consumption should be limited to 2-3 eggs per week. Eggs can actually raise your cholesterol levels if you consume too many. This is info from a nutrionist that we consulted for my youngest one.

The heart foundation usually recommends 3-4 eggs a week for an adult.Apparently an average egg has about 200mg of cholesterol and the daily limit of cholesterol for children should be 300mg.It would all depend on the overall diet of the child though as to how much cholesterol he/she is consuming (in items other then eggs as well as the eggs)It is mainly the yolks which cause the cholesterol so if you are concerned about this would your son not eat egg white omelette's etc instead of the whole egg?

There have been alot of studies done on eggs in the last half a century. No two of them seem to agree exactly. Eggs are high in cholesterol, but people dissagree on how much of it is good cholesterol and how much bad. Eggs are also extremely high in high quality protein. I've even read that eggs have the highest quality protein you can get in a food.

As long as he's not consuming more than 1 a day, I'm sure he's fine. After all, for years people ate eggs for breakfast every day.

The latest research says that one egg a day is fine and in fact good for you.

People should only restrict their intake of eggs to 2 - 3 per week if they have a confirmed cholesterol or heart problem. This is why the heart foundation makes that recommendtion - I am guessing that you son does not have a heart or cholesterol problem.

Eggs are a fantastic source of protein - growing kids need protein. In fact starting each day with a shot of protenin in the form of an egg is great. Most nutritionests recommend a good protein breakfast to start the day with. If you poach or boil the egg - it will reduce the fat intake of frying them. Scrambling them is okay if you use a non stick pan to avoid the use of added fat.

That probably is too many eggs and too much cholesterol - If you continue with the 5-6 egg thing you should totally buy some chickens!

I wouldn't worry if he is getting enough exercise. Children can eat more eggs per week than adults and not worry about cholesterol. Most kids eat meat every day anyway, eggs are just another protein source. Five to six per week is not excessive.

You're right, he does. 1-2 eggs/week is enough, especially since there is egg in lots of other premade foods, muffins, cakes, some cookies, custards, puddings etc.

they say that when your body needs something you will find a way to get it. perhaps your son needs more protein in his diet. other than he just loves eggs. ^_^ i would limit them to breakfast only for every other day. but try to introduce more protein into his diet and see if he still craves eggs so much. hope that helped ^_^

I wouldn't worry about it if your child isn't overweight, and doesn't consume a lot of fatty foods or red meat. Eggs are a great source of protein and good cholestoral.
