I'm having an apicoectomy on Nov. 15 - a week before Thanksgiving (I know, poor planning on my part). Anyone know how long until I can eat solid food? Also, I'm very familiar w/ the process...just haven't found much info on the recovery. Any insight/tips/happy thoughts for a speedy recover? Thanks!

Sorry about the timing..

Drink plenty of fluids; however avoid hot liquids and foods. Soft food and cool liquids should be eaten on the day of surgery. You may return to a normal diet, as tolerated, beginning the day after surgery but avoid crunchy food (popcorn, pretzels, and potato chips) for a week after surgery, as these could become lodged and irritate the surgical area.

It does depend on the size of the infection at the apex of this tooth, as this will dict the size of the insision.

I already assisted an apicoectomy at operatory room (hospital) in which the lesion was that big that we had to cut a flap on the whole maxilla.. And the patient was Great 1 week after...

For a normal sized lesion, the incision is really conservative and will be completely closed afterward.. You may want to keep it untouched the first 2-3 fays but after there is absolutely no problem...

THE HEALING OF THE AREA IS RATHER UNEVENTFUL. IT'S IMORTANT NOT TO CHEW HARD FOODS FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS UNTIL IT BEGINS TO HEAL.
THE LINKS BELOW SHOULD BE USEFUL, GOOD LUCK
