God save us from "former Catholics" who claim to "know" the Catholic faith, but obviously don't ... and from those who claim to be former Catholics, but are merely liars and fools.

Around or about 45 AD, Peter went to Rome and from there lead the Catholic Church. As of today, there have been 263 Popes in direct succession to Peter. The position of Pope was established by Christ and the office has been maintained in an apostolic manner since the time of Christ.

The title pope, once used with far greater latitude is at present employed solely to denote the Bishop of Rome, who, in virtue of his position as successor of St. Peter, is the chief pastor of the whole Church, the Vicar of Christ upon earth. The Pope is Jesus' representative on Earth.

Good answer Tebone03 & DougLawr....

First of all, Catholics do not believe that the Pope is infallible, we believe that he is infallible when teaching on faith and morals.

Next, there is no single Protestant organization, no combined set of beliefs that they all hold to, so they need no central leader. The main difference between Catholics and Protestants is that Protestants rely more on your own personal interpretation of the Bible and Catholics follow the interpretation of the Church, and the Sacred traditions that Jesus started when he set up the Church in the first place.

Catholics do not believe that you must be Catholic to gain salvation. That is not what the Pope said, although he has been mis-quoted about it.

I wish that all who take it upon themselves to spread un-truths about the Catholic faith would first learn what we REALLY believe before repeating lies about us. It is really easy also, all they have to do is get a copy of the New Testament and the Catechism of the Catholic Church and read them. Nothing to hide from there.

Remember this: """""Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor."""""

The Pope is the Bishop of Rome, and as such is the earthly head of the Church here on earth. He is Christ's Vicar here on earth, and among his many duties is looking after his people here on earth. Jesus Christ Himself is the actual head of the Church.

It would be the same thing as asking a Protestant if their local pastor or bishop were equal to Jesus.

Yes, here in Protestant America there are a lot of misconceptions about Catholicism. It doesn't surprise me at all.

Who instructed you that? in case you say "many participants" you should have lengthy previous around the world and ask about it. i have not lengthy previous to mass continuously yet i'm a defender of my faith. no longer a unmarried note from books or from clergy that would want to point "the pope equals Jesus Christ". in case you dare to ask the validity of our life (the Catholic faith), then you actually must have lengthy previous by interior our international and see it for your self if we ever PRAY TO THE POPE! perhaps you acquire this question after listening to "bully words" adversarial to Catholicsm from human beings no longer of an analogous colorations. How will we acquire almost each and every of the believers if we are foolhardy adequate?

You wrongly obey a man. Protestants obey ONLY God almighty.

You wrongly obey a man made catecism. We ONLY obey the Holy Spirit inspired Bible.

You wrongly pray to mere mortal "powerfess" man-made "Saints", non-dieties instead of the ONE God, while we pray to GOD ALONE!

The commandments warn against praying to other (false) "gods" before the one living GOD who alone is all-powerful and able to bless us.

You wrongly call the daughter of God, the blessed human Mary, the "Mother of God", when God had existed forever.

Jesus was the 4th man in the fire in the OT!!! His existance did not begin with Mary.

Because she was a virgin at the time of Jesus's conception, your vatican says she is "STILL a virgin" (forever), when the Bible says otherwise.

It was the duty of a follower to obey the command of God to "Go forth and multiply"

It was the duty of a Hebrew wife to have "relations" with her husband Joseph.

Every one who was baptised in the Bible, waded out into the water to be baptised (full emmersion) as concenting adults...including Jesus!

Even RC inspired films show Jesus in the water up to his chest to be baptised.

It is unintentionally funny, lightly springling His hair, when he is already (as per the bible) soaking wet from foot to chest!

Read the bible, it wasn't water from a bowl, just sprinkled on his hair!

They went into the water, then rose "Symbolizing the death, burrial and reserection" as the Word of God says!

But your human popes, self-appointed "infalible" leaders, have said that RC baptism is something different.

A mere sprinkling of water on the hair, of babies, who may be crying in protest, or sleeping through it, and ALWAYS completely unaware!

Babies do not understand!!! How can they be "obeying" God's command?

Need I go on?

Bread magicly His meat? Cannibalism?!?

Wine magically becoming blood? When the bible plainly PROHIBITS DRINKING BLOOD!!!

"Indulgences" where the rich buy forgiveness in advance for sins as serious as murder. Etc.

The RC church reformed, due to the Protestant enlightenment, but there is still much foolishness.

God loves you, and so do I, but I left the RC church to join the POTESTant enlightenment because popes are only men.

If you RC believers obeyed your own church, you'd still be having 9 children (like before the invention of the BANNED "pill) instead of just 2, like us!

We are fundamentalists. We go by the Bible, as best we understand it, not the pope!

The pope of the day is NOT the "head of the church".

Christ is!!!

The church is the "body of Christ", and WE followers of Christ ARE "the church", not any building(s) ... nor any one denomination!!!

Pray about God's will (not what the priests say)! He is LORD of all!!!

For brevity, I speak VERY frankly! Forgve my bluntness.

I don't want to slowly develope these ideas gently, in a long BOOK answer!

God bless us all! May the Holy Spirit fill our hearts.

A vicar is not a "substitute," but a "deputy."

One who acts under the authority of the superior.

Christ established the Church. The Pope holds the keys, which in OT imagery, is the sign of the authority of the king in the hands of the appointed administrator.

I don't think that they would put the pope and God on the same level. I mean, the pope isn't even close. The pope is just like you and me. He certainly sins and I know he is just simply a man. Protestant Christian.

Ahmm that's a misunderstanding perhaps, who told you that. We all know that Pope is just a person and you all know that their names are not written in the Bible.

Maybe someone tells you that you treat Popes like gods. Like praying to them, kneeling at their front, kissing their hands, offering foods. I known some of them. Some of you are even going to Pope John Paul II's tomb, placing your hands in his body believing he could heal.

Maybe that's what they mean. But not literally what you understood.
