I mean, if you dress in a suit, and smell fresh, and you put "homeless" on your job application, does it really mean any thing? or should you lie and just put the address of where ever your car is, and your PO box?

I think it depends on what kind of job you're looking for. If you're interviewing with, say, a social-service agency, having experience with homelessness may actually be a benefit.

In other situations, it may be best to take the "none of their business" approach.

It also could depend on where you are. In some cities, feelings run strongly against the homeless, whether it's compassion fatigue or something else. In those places, you might be running a risk to mention it.

Absolutely do not tell the company you are homeless. None of their darn business!

Do you have anyone that you could use as a real address? If not, then PO Box is the next best choice. Some shelters may allow you to use their address and unless the interviewer volunteers there, it is doubtful they would know.

I am sorry you find yourself in this situation as it sounds like you are willing to work. Just keep in mind that if you land a job, go and get a room at a weekly hotel until you can save enough to get a real place again.

Bless you my dear, I wish you good luck and success and hope that soon you will be looking back on this as a learning experience and only a distant memory.

Not having an address or phone is a major disadvantage for the homeless which some organizations are trying to solve by offering base addresses and voice mail phone numbers to active job hunters. Many private mail box companies, like Mail Boxes, Etc., use a physical address and a box number, which can be put in an application like it is an apartment number, ie 1234 Main Street, #450.
With so many people using cell phones these days which in the USA are not identified as such as they are in Europe, giving a cell phone as the number is not a problem.
When the company does a credit check or you are asked how long you have been at that address, the kind of address may out.

There are many organizations that donate clothing to the homeless for interviews. It is also best for the individual to arrange mail pick up at a shelter or neighborhood church. At times, the same organizations that assist the homeless will collect mail and take phone messages. It must be prearranged though. There is no reason for a homeless person to not be given a fair chance for employment. It takes some organization and work but it can be done.

It may be difficult to be a job, but you said the key word that it's not impossible. If you want to make an effort to be able to better yourself and your situation, then this is a great start and i commend you for this. If you have family or friends in the area, you can possibly use their address for temporary usage until you get a permanent one of your own. As far as clothes, there are churches that always give free clothes out to the less fotunate and I'm sure that they would be more than happy to help you. Also, they might have some career centers there that could help you with clothing. I hope this helps you out in your search.
