i am really lost
i no longer believe in any organized religion
except, maybe buddhism which i would like to learn more about,
anyway,i hate to admit it,but what faith i ever had is really going
the more i listen to atheists the more i like their beliefs,
but what i would like to know is why is the bible so accurate in the events that would come to pass
where does it come from
and how do it know so much about the future

i am asking this in all sincerity,so if your only intentions are to insult me for being confused, please, move on!

Are you sure you are asking the right people for help!
Aren't going to the wrong people to explain to you the Bible! the same people who don't believe it!
Would you ask them to explain the Quran as well to you! It is not their book, so the only reasonable choice will be the Muslims. Same goes with the Bible. Either you go to the Jews or the Christians. Only logic. Unless, what you are looking for is to lose whatever faith or believes you have left in it!

Is the Bible filled with lies! what! You see if someone want you to do something differently to believe as they do! what best than discredit that beliefs, and dissect it!
If a person is crafty enough! they can translate or explain to you the same thing in many different ways.

Edit:
We all question our faith in one way or another. Some of us gets the right direction, and others, don't.
If you want to understand and not lose your faith. Try to see it through your own eyes, not other people. People who disagree with you, will do their best to mislead you. What do you want! find it from the right source.

The "God" thing has changed considerably in my thought process over the past few years. First, what is God? Nothing but a word! Three letters. A particular shape of ink dots on paper. The word God came from Europe. It was made up by man. We have attached so much baggage to that word that it has a negative connotation for many people. Maybe another word would work better? How about "Eternal Truth"? Whatever. Suppose I have never tasted peanut butter, nor have I ever popped a single peanut in my mouth. Do you think you could explain to me what I would experience when that first glob of peanut butter passed my lips? And do so in a manner that when I did first taste it, I would say "Oh, yea, its just what I expected"? No one could give that description. The taste of peanut butter is beyond words. It is beyond thought. If man can't even explain the taste of peanut butter, how then can man be expected to explain God? Can't be done. Beyond words, beyond thought. I came to my understanding of God when I understood that I would never understand. And that is about as good as it gets. Religion might point me in the right direction, but could easily point me in the wrong direction also. Three letters in the shape of "God" won't even come close. During rare moments, I feel this thing in my heart, and am working at feeling it more frequently. When I am able to turn down the volume of all the thoughts going around in my head, then, and only then, am I able to feel it in my heart. Maybe faith is knowing this is possible?

Qualifier: I am not an atheist.

Actually, the Bible is NOT 100% accurate - archaeological studies prove this. The Bible does NOT know about the future. I'm guessing that you are referring to "Relevations", which makes a lot more sense if you understand that it was written using the terminology of "numerology" which was an ancient Jewish way of attempting to predict the future because the Romans wouldn't understand it (so they could say revolutionary things against the Romans and they wouldn't understand it).

There are plenty of things to believe in whether you believe in a deity or not, like the love of a parent for a child, that it is wrong to commit adultery, that committing murder is wrong, etc. Goodness is not controlled only by people that believe in God, and some unspeakably evil things have been done by people that do.

Listen, forget the bible. Its just a work of fiction. Some psychiatrists have written down everything that "God" said in the old testament and the context in which he said it - they concluded that he is a paranoid schizophrenic. I had a neighbor that was very religious. She had bible readings in the house 3 times a week. Spent every Weds evening at the church. Sunday was mass and then bible classes all day. Go home for dinner and return to the church for more. One day she needed a favor from god for her daughter and the favor was not granted. She use to sign her Xmas cards "In Christ" but now we recieve them without the qualifier.

People who devote the majority of their lives "worshipping god" are wasting their time. God could not even lift a finger save or help a child during the holocaust of the Nazis for example. They will tell you that Christ died for our sins in an effort to make you feel beholden to the religion. What terrible thing would have happened if Christ did not die for our sins?

Go sit under a tree somewhere and think about it. Peace

I'm sorry. I would like to help you out but I'm a strong Christian and I am standing up for what I believe in. But I can prove there are events currently leading to the end of the world that the government won't listen to.

1. The Revelations say that a whole area of territory (in other words a state) will burn the homes of many people.
That's related to all the irrelevant forest fires in California.
2. A foreign of a countries enemy will become ruler (president, etc.) will take control over that one country.
Who do you think is running for president here in USA. Mr. Obama who is from Iraq which we are in war with.
3. This leader will be resurrected (brought back to life) and his people under him will obey his every command without heed or warning.
Yeah. So think about it! I've gotta go to bed, but I would like to tell you more "coinsidences"!

One more thing, I really hope you make the right choice. Believe in your heart and don't let other people convince you. I'm not pushing you at all! I'm just praying. ~_~

Check out Albert Einstein's thoughts:

"The religion of the future will be a cosmic religion. It should transcend personal God and avoid dogma and theology. Covering both the natural and the spiritual, it should be based on a religious sense arising from the experience of all things natural and spiritual as a meaningful unity. Buddhism answers this description .. If there is any religion that could cope with modern scientific needs it would be Buddhism. (Albert Einstein)"

I'm Catholic, but I understand what you're saying. (Not agreeing, but understanding.)

The bible is accurate because
1) it's the bible. Of course it's accurate. =P
2) If #1 doesnt satisfy you, here's the theory of a lot of my atheists HISTORY teachers. (I think if you should ask anyone, it should be historians. They actually give LOGICAL reasons for their lack of religious beliefs.) History repeats itself. So by making a prediction of the future based on past events, then it will most likely be proven correct.

For more details, I think you should see a history teacher or other kind of historian, because most of them are atheists.

Their reasons may be logical, but the only ways for someone to really understand the bible and it's contents are to A) Read it, and B) Believe it.

I'm not trying to press that on you, but honestly, that's pretty much it.

And yeah, I dont recommend listening to half of the answers on your page so far. Not to be mean, but they're mostly.... illogical. And vague. I say ask someone who's educated in the matter.

People who dont believe in God because they've had tradegy in their lives or just dont care arent reliable sources. It's like going to an agnostic and asking why Priests wear different kinds of robes.

The Bible is based on historical events, and gives us some insight into the minds of those who wrote it. All ancient text are useful in gaining a clearer understanding of where we have come from.
Embrace the universe it is wonderful enough without a divine entity.
Being an atheist in no way makes you less of a human and may lead to a greater understanding of what it means to be alive.

Well honey, we atheists aren't atheists because of what we DO believe, we are atheists because of what we don't believe in (a personal god). My beliefs have led me to embrace a lifestyle known as humanism. In other words, I believe in using human methods to solve human problems--not relying on supernatural beliefs! I also believe that compassion is one of the greatest expressions of human-ness.

And as far as I can tell, nothing in the bible was ever predicted accurately. Starting with Jesus's promise to his apostles ( Before every one of you has passed from this world, I will come again!). And don't even ask me where Noah found peguins, polar bears and boa constrictors near enough to his home to put on his ark. (And don't even get me started on the platypus)!

Nothing is accurate. That book has been re-edited a gazillion times. Besides, anything that you think is accurate is either too general that it would happen anyway or those Christians are just twisting the meaning of the words to fit an occured event.

Trust me, you are right in getting away from the church.

There is no God and there is nothing good in that church.

You will discover a new and wonderful life once you realize that.

I support you.
