We're taught to respect our bodies and treat them like temples.

Just as you generally don't draw on the walls of your house, tattoos are discouraged. That said, you can have tattoos and piercings and be in "full standing" with the church. You may not be asked to participate in certain things and you'll probably feel judged, however, a tattoo won't necessarily keep you out of heaven (however the attitude that led to getting the tattoo could).

Women are recommended to have just one piercing in each ear, and men are expected not to have any. Tattoos are definitely something that members are advised not to get. We have these views, because we view our bodies as temples. We believe that we should treat them as such and should make ourselves look as presentable as possible.
Those with tattoos who join the church are asked to make sure they are covered while performing service within the church.
Neither is acceptable, but I personally would say getting a piercing would be slightly more acceptable, since it is much less permanent and you can let the piercing grow over.

In the Mormon religion you are not supposed to get a tattoo because it would defile you body which is a gift from God. It is acceptable for women to get one set of piercings (one hole in each ear). I am a Mormon so if you have any further questions regarding Mormonism please contact me.

I have a tattoo of a butterfly on my back. I got it when I was 20. I dont think it's encouraged, but it's not a sin as doesn't affect your standing in the church.

your not supposed to have more than one pierceing and they strongly advise to not get tattoos. it shows disrespect to god and because your body is a temple and you shouldnt graffiti on it and you dont want to give other religions the wrong impression on the chruch

ultimately, it is up to the individual to decide. we have been counselled by our ecclesiastical leaders for women not to have more than one piercing per ear. body piercings and tatoos are discouraged - but it's not going to effect one's standing within the church

Breathing is still questionably allowed by Mormons... tattoos and piercings are _RIGHT OUT_ and neither is more acceptable than the other in my opinion since both are way to intractable.
