Have the mom fixed. Go to the nearest rescue center and see if someone will foster then and have them get adopted.
If you could, take them in, if not stick them into a kennel or something. Maybe try a different shelter, But the shelterd usley kill the animal with in 2 weeks of not adopting, i am sorry to say. Try Petfinder.com and post something there. Good luck!

Aww it was sweet of you to help those homeless cats.. and i understand that living in an apartment, you can't take everyone in...
I think your idea for a shelter for them is great. You might also feed all of them (including the mom) kitten chow because it's higher in calories. You said mom could gain some weight, anyway, right?
Perhaps put notices up on bulletin boards at local stores advertising cats to a good home.. maybe you will get some calls? Many vets have boards, too.
take care and i hope it works out. you're a great person.

a heated shelter is a great idea. If you can't get rid of them I would do that.
I'm trying to get rid of my last 2 kittens as well. I'm having the same problem with the shelters here.
Have you talked with your landlord? maybe if you sign something saying that you are only temporarily keeping them, max 3 months he will let you bring them in the apartment for the winter.

Can you find homes for them..try coworkers, family, friends, neighbors, etc. You can put up a flyer in your local pet hospital with photos included. Try your local pet store that may take them off your hands to sell them in their shop.

That would be great if you could shelter and feed them. Also there may be a trap and release program near you that can help you with getting them fixed and nutered which is necessary. Best of luck to you
