The gospel according to Mary Magdelene says that there is no sin apart from that stated by mankind . [try reading the other gospels , they are eye opening] Thus there is no sin , and whatever other parts of the bible may proscribe what 2 people should choose to do , they should be allowed and respected for . As a non christian , surely happiness should be paramount and if some people wish to make their vows to each other in public , they should be welcomed. Government should take no part in this micro management of any country

Gays have a right to equal marriage on the BASIS that it is a civil rights issue. The US is based on separation between church and state. Therefore, ti doesn't matter if any religion is against it. Go for it, be bigoted all you want, but gay's should still be allowed to get married. It doesn't have to have anything to do with any particular church that doesn't want to welcome it, and it doesn't threaten or hurt anyone else. If you don't like it, don't do it. But that doesn't mean that you have to stop other people from doing it.

And yes, this is completely different from pedophilia and murder b/c those things hurt others. A gay relationship is between two consenting adults. Pedophilia is wrong b/c it hurts the child and the child is not old enough to consent to anything. Murder is wrong for obvious reasons. Gay relationships are NOT THE SAME THING! It is really scary to me how some people actually compare these things and see them as equal "transgressions." I say that in quotes b/c homosexuality is not a transgression.

Basic human rights. They don't ask for them. They already have them. They are asking that they be recognized. Gays are citizens who pay taxes and they no more need to explain themselves than straight folks. Can you imagine trying to explain to someone why you have the right to marry the woman of your dreams? Meanwhile, the marriage issue is not a religious one. Marriage rights are entirely secular and up to the state to decide.
I was married by a judge, in a courthouse.

I'm not gay. But one's sexuality should not determine WHO one has the right to spend the rest of their life with.

I'm Pagan and we have no "rules" against it. We don't have too many rules to begin with :-) As far as the basis, I presume it would be because two people love each other and want to make a formal, legal commitment to be together for the rest of their lives. Sound familiar?

Just look at this news story if you want to see what's wrong with denying gays basic rights: http://www.commondreams.org/headlines05/0327-02.htm
Some of them aren't even allowed to visit their partners in the hospital. This wouldn't be an issue if they were allowed to have a legal union like the rest of us.

I would think they would ask for it on the basis that they are humans and as consenting adults that aren't hurting anyone they deserve basic civil rights I would think. But hey, that's just me.
