A lot of people who are overweight are actually sick regardless of what they eat. Look at it this way, obesity is a disease.
Many people eat a lot of junk food, don't exercise, and are not overweight. Many overweight people eat as much as ordinary people, or less, and are overweight.
I'm not saying that all of them are exercising and watching their food. I just want you to know that an overweight person does not mean someone who does not care about his/her health.
Being not overweight doesn't mean being healthy either. You can be exercising and doing all that you possibility can to take care of your health and still have many many diseases and allergies and such stuff...
I'm just trying to let you see the picture from another angel. I hope I helped. :)

FIRST: The concept of insurance is "sharing the risk". Therefore the cost should be spread equally among all members.
SECOND: Just because someone is overweight does not mean that they are a higher risk than someone who is not. Despite the statistics, individuals are just that...individual.
THIRD: In some cases, charging higher for overweight people could constitute violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
IN SHORT: No, they should pay the same.

you want people who are sick to pay more for their health insurance...some babies are born needing medical care, some need it before they are ever born...if insurance rates were set by your standards, nobody could afford it...as you already know, it's the healthy people who fund the insurance companies by not using it...your best bet is to stop paying for insurance until you need it, thereby saving all the money you are wanting the overweight people to pay extra for...no offense meant to anyone, just going by YOUR question...if some of the democrats running for president are elected, we may be paying the government and getting free health care...you still have time to make your mind up on that issue...

Not all overweight people are unhealthy and not all thin people are healthy either. Many people are thin due to drug use, smoking, drinking alcohol, poor diet, eating disorders, or a terminal illness.

Perhaps we (fat people) should be made to pay a "penalty" if it was proven in court that that particular treatment that we needed would have been unnecessary had we been slim!

I think they should. It shows they have a lack of interest in there overall health. It may not be the politically correct thing to do though.
