You might want to check..the new Cummins is the 6.7 due to emmissions. and yes, much quieter.

the exhaust note is determined by the diameter and lenght of the exhaust pipe. can be made to sound very loud there is little you can do to make a deisel quite. i used to buile the cummins engine at the columbus plant where they assemble the truck in mexico. still the best deisel on the market for non commercial trucks

You couldn't hear the exhaust for all the clatter on the old rattler> My 05 with the 4" exhaust has a tone of it own> Turbo whine>
