i will be switching to a goods dog brand once we finish up pedigree. which ones do you recommend? i was at the pet shop the other day and they were promoting nutrience dog food. now i had never heard of nutrience so i knew it couldnt be good dog food but they said to me thats its the same as innova. after checking the ingredients, i pointed out to them all the corn meals and everything and you should've seen their faces. they were like ****, this girl knows her dog food!
it was so funny
anyway, just wanted to tell you that. which one do you recommend?

THE FIRST INGREDIENT IN CANIDAE IS:
CHICKEN MEAL
i thought a good dog food brand would be just meat by itself........

Of the three you mentioned, Innova is the top choice to me. But Canidae has reasonable prices for a nice quality kibble.
Royal Canin is not even close in quality to the other two. It has some pretty questionable ingredients, as does Nutrience.
Good for you for sticking up for better foods, even amongst the brand representatives!!
To me, a brand even better than Canidae or Innova is Merrick. I feed this to my dogs when I cannot cook for them, and will never change kibbles and canned foods!

We feed our Golden Retriever Iams, as we felt it was a more economical choice than Canidae, and others, but also a bit of a step up from Pedigree (which we used to use, but the smell of the dog was driving everyone out of the room).
Your right to stay away from anything that lists corn as a primary ingredient. As I always say to people-what happens to you when you eat corn? Well, the same thing will happen to your dog-EVERy DAY!!!
I have found that you can also get pretty good coupons for Iams (as much as $5.00 off).

I have my dogs on Innova. As you pointed out, the other 2 have some type of meal at the first ingredients. Innova has 2 plain meats as their first ingredients, not meals.

Canidae and Innova are both great foods, a couple others are Wellness, Solid Gold, Eagle Pack and Evanger's.

I feed Canidae. It is better than Innova. My dog is allergic to barley. so he did bad on innova. Canidae works good for all dogs. it has more meat varieties like lamb, chicken, turkey, and herring. Plus if your dog is allergic to chicken, canidae has a lamb and brown rice formula.
EDIT: chicken meal is no worse than chicken. it's basicly dried chicken. You can't put to much plain chicken, lamb, or beef in a dry food. too much moisture. Dry foods need to have meat meals too to keep the kibble well formed. Both chicken and chicken meal have equal nutrtional benefits. Could you possibly be getting chicken meal confused with
chicken by product meal? Both Innova and Canidae are 5 star foods.

whichever one you can consistantly obtain and that the dog thrives on. I wouldn't wait until you run out of your present dog food as you need to be able to switch the dog over -- take out a small amount of the food he is getting now and replace it with the new one and progressively make the amount of the new one more over the next week or so and that way the dog doesn't get gastrointestinal upset, vomiting, diarrhea -- I feed Canidae but Innove, Royal Canine and the like are good foods so whatever is easier to obtain consistantly as you don't want to be running out and having to switch suddenly or something.
BTW, beware of puchasing foods from pet stores that support puppy/kitten mills through sale of dogs in their stores -- please support pet stores that don't do that instead, regardless of the food they carry.

i feed my doxie the royal canin stuff for mini doxies.his coat is nicer, and hes done very well on it. but all the kinds of food... its so hard to JUST GET THE DOG FOOD!!! its expensive, but nourishing.
NEVER buy kibbles n bits. They put all kids of sh!t in their food. roadkill, guts, euthanized animals(which have the poison in the meat --> contaminated dog food).
